We are pleased to announce that going forward, Guild society members will be able to choose their level of involvement, including opting in for epic additional rewards!

From Oct 1st 2026, paying society members can adjust their donation if they would like to get more out of their guild experience. Participating in the guild community is always available for free to everyone, however paid Society members will now have their choice of rewards & donation amount.

This change in membership has been implemented as a measure of ensuring the Waikato Role-Playing Guild can continue to thrive and grow as costs and reasonable expenses increase. We remain a not-for-profit incorporated society that depends on volunteer involvement, and we recognise that those who bring their time and energy to the Guild deserve to have an enriching experience.

🎲 Roll for belonging?

Your regular Dungeons & Dragons session might be doing more than helping your party survive the next encounter.

UC PhD student Courtney Matthews studied 305 New Zealand D&D players and found that those who felt a stronger sense of belonging to their D&D group also reported higher wellbeing and self-esteem.

Players also rated their D&D groups among the most positive and supportive groups in their social networks, despite spending less time with them than with friends or family.

Courtney is now interested in whether tabletop roleplaying games could be used more widely to help people build connection and belonging.
