Auckland hospo people, what's your next move?

We're working on something new... A daytime hospitality venture with purpose. A place where great food, quality coffee, creativity, community and social impact come together.

If you have hospitality experience as a chef, barista, foh manager or running events, and you're ready to take the next step this could be for you. We're looking for passionate, energetic people who bring big ideas and initiative and enjoy working as part of a purpose-driven team.

Send us your CV and a few words about why you'd love to work with Everybody Eats to [email protected] to get the conversation started. We're on the lookout for 2-3 full or part-time hospo professionals to help get a new daytime venture off the ground.

Help us spread the word.

He aha te mea nui o te ao?
He tangata, he tangata, he tangata.

It is National Volunteer Week, and we cannot let it pass without saying the thing we feel every single service.

Everybody Eats does not exist without our volunteers. Not as a nice idea. As a literal fact. You are the hands that prep the kai, plate the meals, run the dishpit, pour the wine, and welcome every person through our doors like they belong here, because they do.

What you give us is not just time. It is manaakitanga made real. You turn rescued food into a warm meal and a full table. You turn strangers into regulars and regulars into whānau. You build the kind of community that no budget line could ever buy, and you do it with heart, every week, asking for nothing back.

We are constantly humbled by you. Endlessly grateful for your mahi.

To every volunteer who has ever stood beside us: thank you. Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa. You are the reason there is always room at the table.

Ngā mihi,
The Everybody Eats whānau

Citrus season is on, and we are absolutely here for it.

Right now, lemons, navels, Satsuma mandarins, tangelos and grapefruit are straining trees across Aotearoa. We grow around 31,000 tonnes of citrus a year, and the heart of the season falls right through our coldest months. Which is exactly when you need it most.

In our kitchens in Wellington, Onehunga and Glen Innes, citrus is one of those ingredients that touches almost everything. Savoury, sweet, drinks, preservation. It’s the quiet hero of so much of what we make and serve.

Every citrus you’ve ever eaten traces back to just three ancestors: pomelo, citron, and mandarin. Everything else, lemons, oranges, grapefruit, tangelos, is a hybrid born from those three. Citrus has been in the making for around 25 million years.

Lemons were once so rare they were presented as gifts to kings. The British Royal Navy began supplying sailors with lemon and lime juice in 1795 to prevent scurvy, and the practice was so effective it changed naval history. When grapefruit was first discovered in Barbados, it was called the “forbidden fruit.”

Much of citrus’s vitamin C lives in the peel, not the flesh. Just one tablespoon of zest carries around three times more vitamin C than the juice inside. The colour orange is named after the fruit, not the other way around.

If you’ve got a citrus tree going feral in your garden, we’re not not saying bring us a bag 😜

Happy citrus season, everyone. 🍋

Last week we got to do something pretty special. A popup Everybody Eats at The Gables in Russell.

What a beautiful spot, overlooking the water, the town embraced and welcomed us in. We had an amazing community show up to help serve a three course dinner made from rescued and donated food.

The menu was brought together by Gables Head Chef Cye Maddox, alongside long time supporters and local legends Jono Thevenard and Kia Kanuta.

Thank you to everyone who dined, served, connected, supported and helped make this popup something truly special.
