UPDATE - VAL IS IN HER NEW HOME - We had a fantastic amount of interest in helping this lovely girl but ended up with an extended family member has taken her, which is fantastic. Thank you all for the interest in VAL.

Hi everyone
Val is in desperate need of a new home for her last couple of golden years.

"My mum had a fall and has had a hip fracture. She is in hospital with a fracture and unlikely to go home. She has a 13 year old pedigree labrador that originally came from the blind institute as a puppy.

A bit complicated but she is with a lovely family in laingholm, their teenage son walked her for mum at the retirement village. The family took her and mum thought she would be adopted by them but circumstances changed and we are thankful for their help in the meantime.
We visited her on Saturday when they advised us they couldn't look after her much longer.

Val was at the Vets last Saturday and is generally healthy for her age. She does have arthritis which will require ongoing treatment and medications. She also has the beginnings of laryngeal issues with a bit of laboured breathing.

If you think you can help this lovely old girl out, please contact me asap at [email protected]

FUN DAY - UPDATE
We will be on the grass out the front of the building tomorrow (Sunday 26th) so please park in main carpark at front of building.
Drive in and keep going straight then follow the road around to the right after the stop sign and park anywhere in that carpark.
If it’s wet we will be inside but it looks like a beautiful day β˜€οΈ see you there.

Use these ranges as a starting point, then assess body shape (waist + ribs). Labs vary in build, so visual condition still matters.

βœ… Healthy (Ideal weight)
β€’ Female: 55–71 lb (25–32 kg)
β€’ Male: 64–79 lb (29–36 kg)

🟑 Underweight (~10–20% below ideal)
β€’ Female: 44–53 lb (20–24 kg)
β€’ Male: 51–62 lb (23–28 kg)

🟠 Overweight (~10–20% above ideal)
β€’ Female: 73–84 lb (33–38 kg)
β€’ Male: 82–95 lb (37–43 kg)

πŸ”΄ Obese (25%+ above ideal)
β€’ Female: 86 lb+ (39 kg+)
β€’ Male: 97 lb+ (44 kg+)

Bottom line: aim for a fit dog, not just a lighter one. Ribs should be easy to feel, waist visible from above, and a slight tuck from the side.
