We need foster home in the South Auckland area. You must be fully fenced and if you rent we would need confirmation from the landlord or property manager stating you can have a foster puppy. We provide everything and cover vet costs.

Please message us if you can help, we are NOT giving these pups away. We are needing foster homes until they are adopted.

Dear friends, community, followers and sponsors of South Auckland Animal Rescue,

Due to some changes within our rescue, Yvonne is currently taking things slowly while she recovers from surgery and will have limited availability for the foreseeable future. Emma is currently helping manage the majority of SAAR enquiries and day-to-day rescue matters, with Yvonne and Emma remaining in regular contact.

For now, please use our SAAR Facebook Messenger page or contact the rescue phone on 022 416 9130 as your first point of contact for animal enquiries, animals needing rescue, veterinary arrangements, donations or anything else relating to SAAR.

To help keep everything organised and ensure donations and animals are handled appropriately, please don’t hand cash, goods or animals to anyone claiming to represent SAAR without first confirming with us. If someone other than Emma is arranging a collection or drop-off, we will confirm this with you beforehand.

Thank you so much for your understanding, patience and continued support of SAAR and the animals in our care.

Busy day today, two pups came into care. Two pups went to foster homes. Pick up dropped off donations from Mangere Vet Clinic. One puppy desexed etc today. And one amazing adoption done, lots of paperwork completed. We thrive on days like this and wonder what the rest of the week will turn out like? Tomorrow I have to post parcels and get prices to send items. Please support our fundraisers, that way we can do much more in the rescue and out in our community.

🐾 Meet Corvin 🖤 Available for Adoption - Rotti x Mastiff

Corvin is a lot like his sister Raven — energetic, playful and full of personality, except this boy definitely likes to play a little more ROUGH! 😂🐾

He loves running around, wrestling and getting right amongst whatever is happening. If there’s another dog ready to play, Corvin is ALL IN. 🤣

🐱 He also LOVES trying to play with the cats… the only problem is the cats absolutely do NOT want to play with him. 😂😂 Apparently Corvin doesn’t understand rejection because he keeps going back to try again!

🍗 He loves his kai, loves being busy and has plenty of energy to burn.

🚪 And just like Raven, if somebody comes knocking, Corvin has found his voice and will happily let you know someone’s there. 😂

He’s a cheeky, energetic, rough-and-tumble boy who will need continued training, socialisation and plenty of opportunities to burn off that puppy energy.

Corvin 🐾 — plays hard, eats well, and is still waiting for the cats to accept his friendship request. 😂🖤

Worth the read if you take the time, great post.

Kind can be boring.
Sometimes it needs to be.

We want to show them their new life.
But they might need time to recover from the old one first.

And I completely understand the excitement.

You've brought this dog home and you want to give them everything.
All the things that say, "look how good your life can be now"!

But they don't know that yet.

They don't know this house is permanent.
They don't know which noises matter.
They don't know the people walking through the door.

Even the routines they relied on have changed.
Everything's changed.

But one thing we do know.

They arrived with a history.

Sometimes one we know quite a lot about.
Sometimes one we know almost nothing about.

So while we're thinking about all the wonderful things we'd like to add into their life, they may still be trying to make sense of the life they have just landed in.

That's why making their world smaller for a while isn't necessarily depriving them.
It can be giving them fewer things to process at once.

And then, when their new world starts making a bit more sense, it can grow.

There is plenty of time for adventures.
But they don't need to experience their whole new life in their first week.

Something to think about!

Something to think about!

Being around other dogs is a skill, too.

Structured pack walks give suitable dogs time to move and explore alongside others, with guidance throughout the outing.

Shared trails, interesting smells and practice being part of a group can make for a rewarding day. Every dog is different, so we’ll talk with you about whether the pack is a good match.

This clever girl is learning so much every day! She picked up “sit” in just a few repetitions and has been fantastic with focus work. She’s such a smart girl! 🥰

Minty also had a lovely play date with another pup. They both settled beautifully and enjoyed some gentle play together. What they really wanted, though, was attention from their people - and Minty absolutely loves being around humans!

She’s making progress, showing us more of her personality and is waiting for someone to give her the chance she deserves 🩷

Personality:

Minty may be a little shy when you first meet her, but give her some gentle encouragement and it won't be long before her confidence starts to shine. Once she feels comfortable, out comes the little explorer! Minty is wonderfully curious and loves investigating her surroundings, chasing a ball and getting stuck into rope toys and blankets. She is also lovely to handle and absolutely laps up attention once she knows she is safe and settled.

Tamariki – Any age provided proper intros and supervision.
Cats – Interested but trainable with proper intros.
Kūri – DFriendly. Ongoing socialisaion required due to age.
Stock/poultry – Untested.
Size – Currently 2.1kgs. Likely to mature large in size.

Ideal home:

Minty is looking for a home that is ready to commit to puppy school, ongoing training, socialisation and plenty of enrichment. She is an intelligent and curious young pup who will thrive with a family that can give her lots of opportunities to learn, explore and burn off her puppy energy, both physically and mentally. With patience, positive guidance and plenty of love, Minty has all the makings of a wonderful little companion.

Who needs a personal explorer when you could have Minty? She is ready to pack her tiny bags, chase some balls and start her next big adventure with you!
