DAY FIVE - staying strong to the end, another 33 surgeries and 103 consultations were added to the 5 day tally yesterday.

Under the great leadership of Dr Kyleah Traber, Angelina, Holly, Gamze, Wendy, Sheridan and Margaret have exceeded all expectations and made us so proud this week, taking close to 180 surgeries in 5 days in their stride!

In addition, thanks to MAFF and Dr Shin working alongside our SPAW team, more than 450 animals had health consultations this week.

DAY FOUR - working together is proving to be a winning combination for SPAW, MAFF, TAWS and Dr Shin (JICA).

Another 115 consultations and 39 surgeries (including 22 dog spays) were completed yesterday!

None of this would be possible without the support of the community and every person who has spread the word, shared posts and made animal welfare a priority in Tonga.

And to our phenomenal volunteers who are working so hard this week - you are an example to us all, showing firsthand what passion and kindness can achieve.

TODAY is the last day of this clinic - our next SPAW clinic will be in October.

DAY THREE - and we are so grateful to the community of Tongatapu for showing up every day with their animals!

The turnout out at this clinic has been amazing and continues to keep our volunteers busy and happy.

Having the support of the community and their dedication to better health for local animals, is a vital part of our mission, so today we give a BIG SHOUT OUT to Tongatapu animal lovers!

And to our SPAW team, Dr Shin (JICA) and MAFF - wow! We are so proud of your efforts and what you are achieving this week.

DAY TWO was another amazing day in Tokomololo!

38 surgeries 😮
21 dog neuters
9 dog speys
2 cat neuters

1 major dog surgery
1 cat dental with 7 extractions (amazing job Holly!)

Together with Dr Shin and MAFF staff, our SPAW team worked with passion and purpose to see as many animals as possible and make a lasting difference today.

DAY ONE was nothing short of impressive! Well done team 👏

At this rate we can expect to make such a lasting difference in the local community this week and we encourage everyone to spread the word and take the opportunity to get free surgery and health checks for cats and dogs.

Our first day stats are:

29 surgeries (15 dog neuters, 10 dog speys, one cat neuter, one cat spey, one puppy leg amputation, one large tooth extraction).

SPAW VET CLINIC OPENS TODAY!
Bring your animals to Tokomololo for surgery, health checks and medications, no bookings required, Mon 17-Fri 21 Aug 830am-430pm.

Our volunteer team is excited to be working alongside Dr Shinnosuke Akiyama (vet) from Japan, who has recently joined MAFF on an initiative of the JICA.

We look forward to a successful 5 day clinic and ongoing collaboration between SPAW, MAFF and Dr Shin.

We extend the warmest welcome to Shinnosuke Akiyama who is the new JICA Tonga Office veterinarian from Japan based at Tokomololo on Tonga. We are looking forward to working with Shinnosuke when we are on island - learning from each other and sharing knowledge to better the lives of animals in Tonga.

Mālō e tau lava!

My name is Shinnosuke Akiyama, and I am a JICA Volunteer (Veterinarian) with the MAFF Livestock Division in Tokomololo.

Since arriving in Tonga in May, I have had the privilege of experiencing beautiful Tongan traditions such as the Heilala Festival and Kaipola. These experiences have helped me appreciate the warmth, culture, and hospitality of the Tongan people, and I have already fallen in love with Tonga!

I am truly grateful for the opportunity to volunteer in this wonderful country. During my time here, I will do my best to support the MAFF clinic and contribute to improving animal health in Tonga.
