WANTED: People who don't mind getting a bit grubby for a good cause.

Let's be honest. You've walked past that piece of rubbish on the ground and thought, "I should really pick that up."
Well friend, now you can!

Since March 2023, our little crew of legend-level locals have hauled away 3,257kg of waste from our Peninsula — that's roughly the weight of a small whale. And we're not done yet.

Our next clean up in locked and loaded:
📅 June 28th
📍 825 Te Atatū Road, Te Atatū Peninsula
⏰ 10am-12pm

We'll supply the gloves and the good vibes. You supply yourself (and maybe a friend?).

🌿Join us at Tawa Esplanade next Sunday 🌿
🪏Over the past few years, Rivercare Group and local volunteers have been working hard to restore this special stretch of land along the awa — planting natives, removing invasive weeds. 🌳🌱

We need our community to help us in the ongoing maintenance of Tawa as we seek to restore the forest. So if you have two hours to give next Sunday we would appreciate your help

If you’ve spotted groups of people wandering around Te Atatū Peninsula with gloves, bags and wearing high vis vests, that’s us.

Since 2023, our local clean-ups have turned into a bit of a community ritual. This year alone we rallied 138 volunteers, collected 759kg of litter, and managed to divert 47% from landfill — which is both impressive and slightly alarming in terms of how much rubbish was lying around in the first place.

But the magic isn’t just in the weight totals. It’s in seeing kids proudly hauling in a bottle they rescued from the gutter, neighbours chatting who’ve never met before, and the collective realisation that living on a peninsula means our rubbish has a direct route to the sea if we don’t catch it first.

Our 2025 Highlights and three-year Impact Overview show what consistent community effort can achieve — and honestly, it’s pretty awesome.

If you’d like to join the clean-up crew (we promise it’s more cheerful than it sounds), follow our Facebook. It feels good to do good!

And a massive shout-out to Earth Action Trust — the steady hands behind the scenes who keep this whole operation running. Couldn’t do it without you. 💚

Another community clean-up wrapped up. A big thank you to everyone who came along and helped care for our beautiful suburb. We’re already looking forward to more gatherings next year — just as much for the connection as the clean-up.

A huge thank you to Earth Action Trust who support, help organise, collate data and really fly the flag for waste reduction in our city. We couldn't do it without you.
