Want to learn about seabirds…
We are running a seabird workshop at Tawharanui 27 June. This is part of our Nga huarahi o te manu moana - Seabird Learning Pathways programme for northern Aotearoa.
The workshop will feature:
• Presentation sessions (two formal session blocks in the Woolshed)
• Interactive activity stations and stalls under marquees and in the Woolshed
• Hands-on demonstrations and mini workshops
• Citizen science project recruitment and training opportunities
• Showcasing seabird resources – our webinars, posters sets, seabird ID cards
• Networking and collaboration opportunities
Activities will include:
• Peer down microscopes to study zooplankton and learn about favourite prey for different species of seabirds
• Seabird identification
• Test your aim with firing a net gun
• Learn about and try your hand at banding with experts
• Seabird restoration techniques – nest boxes, playback systems, translocations, decoys
• Seabird rescue – meet the people who rehabilitate rescued seabirds
• Visit a seabird restoration site
