It’s happened again. We’ve hit the wall.

Right now, we are sitting on a devastating $17,460.03 vet bill at Dairy Flat Veterinary Clinic. It is a number that absolutely takes our breath away, and honestly, it terrifies us. If we cannot clear this down, our ability to take in and treat more vulnerable cats will be completely locked down. We will have to close our doors to emergencies.

Every single dollar of this bill belongs to a face. Just in the last five weeks, the heartbreak and the medical emergencies have been non-stop:

Felix: Arrived at just 7 weeks old with a ruptured, agonizing eyeball. We had to rush him into surgery to remove the eye so he could finally know a life without constant pain. Cost: $1,397.70.

Tibbs & Susie: Two precious souls whose mouths were absolute war zones of infection and decay. They couldn't eat comfortably and were hiding away in pain. Both required extensive, major dentals to remove the rot and give them clean, pain-free mouths. Costs: $1,344.50 and $1,717.00.

Donkey: Our gorgeous, wonky boy who already carries the trauma of facial injuries. When a deep ear infection took hold, we had to run extensive lab investigations to make sure we weren’t missing something serious. Cost: $512.20.

Bella: When she started peeing all over her foster home's benches, we knew she was crying out for help. Ultrasounds and specialist tests confirmed she is fighting kidney disease, and we are doing everything we can to manage her comfort. Cost: $779.10.

Frankie: Our beautiful ex-Paw Pad girl. She has fought brutal ear infections since the day she arrived. Scans revealed a deep, unremovable polyp. To save her from endless misery, the vets determined her only option was a TECA-BO surgery—completely removing the diseased ear canal and ear drum to close it up for good. Cost: $2,445.50.

Peaches: The heartbreaking side of rescue. Our beautiful Paw Pad boy suffered a severe bladder blockage. We fought hard for him, but due to complications and how incredibly unhandled and stressed he was, we had to make the ultimate, devastating choice to let him go peacefully. Cost: $1,343.10.

These are just a handful of the cases making up this bill. On top of this, the daily reality of cat flu, gastro, general illnesses, check-ups, and essential blood testing has stacked up to that massive $17,460.03 mountain.

We have 26,000 page followers. We do not need anyone to break the bank. We just need to work together.

If just 3,500 of our amazing followers—around 15% of you—can spare exactly $5, this entire bill is completely wiped out today. If you can spare $10, we can breathe again in half the time.

Please, if you love what we do, skip a coffee today and stand with us so we can keep our doors open for the next cat who needs us.

How to help clear our slate:

1. Direct to our Vet Account (Best for 100% of funds reaching the bill):
Bank: 02-0278-0318670-00
Account Name: Albany Veterinary Clinic (this is the official bank account name for Dairy Flat Vet)
Particulars: GUTTE50 (You MUST use this code so it goes to our bill!)
Code/Reference: Gutter Kitties

2. Other Online Options - Givealittle, PayPal, or our direct rescue account pleasevisit www.gutterkitties.co.nz/donate

Every single dollar donated, every share of this post, every comment to help the algorithm get this in front of eyes—it all matters. Thank you for being the safety net these cats so desperately need. We cannot do this without you.

FOR ADOPTION - PJ and Belle - can be adopted together or separately

PJ - black and white male

The smallest of his litter — PJ may be small in size, but he carries the spirit of an old soul. With his delicate little paws and thin tail, he looks almost too tiny for this big world, yet he takes it all in with quiet wisdom. He loves to sit back and observe, carefully watching people work around the house as if supervising important daily duties.

PJ is completely people-oriented. Given the choice, he will always choose a human over another cat. He thrives on companionship and connection, and the moment you finally sit down, he makes his move. In one quick hop he’s in your lap, then climbing gently onto your shoulder, rumbling with the loudest, happiest purrrr.

Though he much prefers human company, he still plays nicely with the other fur babies in the household. He simply knows where his heart belongs — curled up close to his person, soaking in cuddles and sharing his sweet, soulful presence.

Belle - black female

Dressed in sleek, all-black fur with the tiniest white dot nestled right in the center of her neck, Belle wears her signature “necklace” like a little jewel — and it’s exactly how she got her name. She’s a stunning girl with a soft, elegant look, but it’s her heart that truly shines.

Belle is the sweetest little soul. The moment you touch her, she switches on her purr machine — loud, steady, and completely unstoppable. No warm-up required. She doesn’t just enjoy cuddles; she lives for them. Pats, snuggles, lap time — she’s always ready and never says no.

Gentle, affectionate, and endlessly loving, Belle has that rare gift of making every person feel chosen. One cuddle with her, and you’ll understand why she’s so very special. 🖤

PJ and Belle are approximately 5 months old and fostered in Waimauku. They are desexed, microchipped and registered, and vaccinated. Please drop us a message if you'd like to meet either of them, adoption fee and criteria apply.

FOR ADOPTION - DAISY AND HER BROTHER BILLY ARE STILL WAITING FOR THEIR PEOPLE

Daisy is a lovely girl with a sweet and gentle nature. She may be a little shy to start with, but it doesn’t take long before she’s curling up on you for cuddles and naps. She enjoys playing with her siblings and has a great mix of playful and affectionate energy. Daisy would thrive in a home that can give her a little time to settle and then enjoy all the love she has to give.

Billy is a confident, affectionate little guy who absolutely loves people. Playful and full of personality, he’s always up for a game before curling up for a nap right on your lap (or chest!). He’s the kind of cat that wants to be part of your day and will happily keep you company around the house.

Daisy and Billy can be adopted together or separately. They are around 5 months old and are desexed, microchipped and registered, and vaccinated. They are fostered in Te Atatu Peninsula. Please drop us a message if you'd like to meet them, adoption fee and criteria apply

FOR ADOPTION - MINNIE

Minnie is a sweet older lady at around 13 years young. She arrived as a stray but has obviously been somebody’s beloved pet, as she is very comfortable indoors and around people.

She vocalises to let you know if she wants food (meows) or to play (a small yowl), and headbutts for affection. Her favourite toy is a ‘mouse’ on a string, and she keeps her foster parents busy chasing it up and down the hallway after breakfast.

Minnie hasn’t often leapt into a lap, but she’s becoming more inclined to lap-sit as the weather cools. She is affectionate and enjoys spending time with the humans in her foster home.

She’ll move out of range of a boisterous child, but she is happy to be petted by a gentle one. Scratches around the head and chin will have her purring ‘full noise’.

Minnie may be allergic to flea or mosquito bites, so exposure to them should be avoided where possible.

This lovely lady will make an excellent companion or someone wanting a mature cat who still loves to play.

Minnie is desexed, microchipped and registered, and vaccinated. She is being fostered in Glen Eden. Please drop us a message if you'd like to meet her.

FOR ADOPTION - Ari and Murdock

TO BE ADOPTED TOGETHER

Adorable Ari is a special wee girl who’s looking for the most caring of homes. She has had a rocky start to life and has remained tiny and a bit shy. Despite this, Ari has blossomed into the most loving companion to the people she knows and trusts. She’s now the first to request pats and scratches and will reward these with perfect purrs and slow blinks. She has the loveliest, noisiest purr when her trust is gained. She also LOVES to play. Ari is a bite-sized hunter and any feather toys with bells in her vicinity should watch out! Ari deserves a home of her own where she will be given the time and patience she needs to gain confidence in her new house and humans. It won’t be a quick process, but it will be worth it. She can be a bit worried around people she doesn’t know after her many vet visits, but don’t let that put you off! Ari is seeking a calm and nurturing home that will appreciate her gentle personality and progress at her own pace. Ari has grown very close to her equally special brother, Murdock, during their recovery, so she is seeking a home with him where they will be cherished exactly as they are.

Mr Murdock is an adorably unique little man searching for a home who will love him just the way he is. Murdock is a dashing and confident gentleman once he knows you, with abundant smooches and purrs on offer. Murdock gives the loveliest cuddles; he will be well worth the time it takes to earn his trust. He is also very playful! His quirky eyes don’t hold him back one bit, so don’t be fooled! He has had a rough start with his eyes needing treatment and several surgeries, so sometimes new people and places can be scary. Murdock needs an amazing family to take a chance on his one-of-a-kind (and very handsome) face - he will repay you with all the love in the world if given the opportunity. Murdock is best friends with his sweet sister Ari - these two are usually found cuddled together in a puddle of purrs, and are seeking their forever home together.

Ari and Murdock are around 6 months old and are desexed, microchipped and registered, and vaccinated. They are being fostered in Glenfield. Please drop us a message if you'd like to meet them.
