We had a small chill clay class yesterday, and it was a pleasant, and enjoyable time! Everyone made amazing pinch pot bowls and utilised the wonderful ammonite fossil into their pieces. I didn't quite get everyone's finished painted pieces but more photos of it once they're out and ready to be used from the kiln!

We decided to spice it up a bit by mixing black and white clays and we're excited to see how they will come out!

For the next clay class, we'll mix it up and use white clay instead.

Mark the dates! 17th May (Sunday) 3:30pm to 5:30pm at Howick College for a clay session with JETAA and Shio Pan Ceramics. .pan.ceramics

Now that we're approaching winter, it's time to get cosy and drink lots of hot drinks and soups! For this clay class, we'll be making a small nabe bowl and a spoon rest for those good soup times.

We will be using black clay so make sure to bring clothes you don't mind getting dirty or stained and a small towel to wipe and dry your hands. Shortened nails are advised and your own hair tie to tie back long hair.

This is open to all JET alumni members including a +1 non-JETAA person! However due to space and supervision limitations, we can only accept 10 people total, so first come first serve.

Yesterday we enjoyed an all you can eat hotpot in Auckland CBD after our meeting. It was the perfect food for the cold, windy, and wet weather.

Afterwards , we enjoyed some Cocomo for some drinks to help digest all the food we ate.

Next month we will be holding a pottery event at Howick College! A post and advertising for that will come up soon! We only have space for 10 people, so come along and join us next month!

Welcome back home 2025 JET Auckland Returnees!

Yesterday we had our Annual General Meeting and a dinner afterwards to celebrate new beginnings in Koiya. We have new faces joining the team and some old that you'll see more and more of this year!

After a long first meeting in the AIG building, we gathered for a meal and snack together.

Planning and talking makes us hungry.

Positions available in the 2026 committee from April:

We have some contenders for a couple of the roles but still open for anyone interested :)

Another amazing OCEANIA Conference, this time hosted by Canberra! We had much needed conversations about the future of the JET Program(me) and how it has changed and adapted in the last 40years. Meeting so many passionate JETAAs and the CLAIR team from Sydney was a pleasure. It was a privilege to connect and talk with all of them.

JET program(me) is not just an exchange program for cultural exchange and english teaching but a community you are linked to for the rest of your life.
People from different walks of life and other parts of the world that have been through the same journey in Japan.

JETAA AKL had a recent THANK YOU dinner ☺️ 🍽️ for all of our helpers, AKL Jet alumni, recent returnees and the Executive committee who helped tautoko and awhi our new Jets on their journey to Japan. We are thankful and amazed at the expertise and experiences of those who shared their knowledge. Thank you Helen Cao our departing liaison officer plus food connoisseur. We had amazing food, wonderful people, and most of all the magical stories of Japan and the Jet Programme that keep us all connected.

THANK YOU to those who were unable to make it, but contributed to our collective effort to help the new Jets fly!
