Andrew Cameron - Part 3

A gentle heads-up: this is the hard part of Andrew's story.

In the space of a couple of seconds, an ordinary family evening became the moment that would shape everything after. Andrew takes us right into it - the flames, the panic, a family doing everything they could in an instant that gave them almost no time to do anything at all.

He was a boy. It was an accident. And it happened faster than anyone could have stopped it.

We're grateful to Andrew for his courage in taking us back to the hardest moment of all - and we're glad to tell you he came through it.

As part of our National Burns Awareness month in June, the BSGCT ran a nationwide radio campaign, social media campaign, and outdoor digital billboards - all to raise awareness and prevention of burns for kiwi across the motu.

Have a listen below to some of the ads played across Mediaworks stations, and huge thanks to Angelique, who shared her story on the rova site, and some of our amazing survivors, Zara, Riley and Ronni who were also featured on the radio ads!

This was the biggest advertising campaign we have ever run, and were able to get a huge amount of additional value from our media partners (including an extra 6 weeks on air currently - listen out!)

Every bit helps to raise awareness and preventing burns, so we are super proud of this campaign and the huge value given to us by our partners.

To our burn survivors, whānau and community

We want to share a brief and heartfelt update with you. Michele Henry has resigned from her role with the Burn Support Group. We thank her sincerely for her service to the Trust and to the burn community over the past decade, and we wish her every good thing for the future.

We also know that change can be unsettling, and that for many of you this news may stir real emotion. That's understandable. The Charity’s Trustees care deeply, and that care is one of its greatest strengths.

So we want to assure each and every one of you that our survivors and their families remain at the very heart of everything we do. We will be here for you - just as we always have been.

Sam Snoad,
Today brings a close to my role within the Burn Support Group. Sadly, Michele and I have both made the difficult decision to move on.
It has been an absolute privilege to work alongside New Zealand's incredible burn survivor community. The strength, courage and resilience I have witnessed over the past 15 months is something I will never forget.
I also want to acknowledge my wonderful colleague, Michele Henry. Working alongside someone with such unwavering dedication, compassion and commitment to burn survivors has been a true privilege. The care she has shown to every person who has crossed her path has been truly inspiring, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have worked beside her.
While leaving was a difficult decision, I know it is the right one for both of us. Together, Michele and I leave with immense respect for the survivors, volunteers, donors and supporters who make this community so special, and we sincerely wish you all nothing but the very best for the future. ❤️

Tomorrow, I close a chapter that has been one of the most rewarding, challenging, and meaningful of my life.
After 11 incredible years, I have made the heartbreaking decision to leave my role with the Burn Support Group.
To my family, every burn survivor, families, volunteers, supporters, donors, sponsors, healthcare professionals, and friends I have had the privilege of meeting along the way—thank you. It has been an honour to walk beside you through both the difficult days and the celebrations. The strength, resilience, and courage of this community will stay with me forever.
I am incredibly proud of everything we achieved together. The camps, retreats, Survivor Sundays and the relationships built over more than a decade will always be among my proudest memories.
After much reflection, I made the difficult decision to leave my role at Burn Support Trust. It was not a decision I had hoped to make, as I was deeply passionate about the work, the people we supported, and the contribution I was able to make. However, I ultimately concluded that it was the right decision for me personally and professionally.
To everyone who stood beside me, believed in me, and supported the work we did together, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your encouragement has meant more than you know.
While my employment has ended, my commitment to the burn community never will. I will always be grateful for the privilege of serving such an incredible community and wish all burn survivors and their families every success and support in the future.
To Sam Snoad , my colleague, thank you hardly seems enough to express my appreciation for your support, kindness, and friendship over the last 15 months. It has truly been the best of times working alongside you. Your encouragement and unwavering commitment have meant more to me than words can say.
Your absence will be tremendously missed, not only by me but by so many others. It is a significant loss to the charity, and more importantly, to the burn community you have served. I feel incredibly privileged to have shared this journey with you.
Thank you for allowing us both to be part of your journey to you all and watch this space

Great fun, many hours, and an incredible team effort went into transforming the venue for the celebration of Delwyn Breslau.
The Pakuranga Sailing Club was looking absolutely beautiful dressed in pink, creating the perfect setting to honour a very special lady and celebrate her remarkable legacy. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped bring the vision to life — your dedication, creativity, and teamwork made the occasion truly memorable.
