Perfectly Imperfect

Perfectly Imperfect Ugly is delicious. Ugly is new hope. Join us to build a sustainable circular food ecosystem. Supermarkets say imperfect, we say Perfectly Imperfect.

We have an ‘ugly is delicious’ and ‘Imperfect means I’m perfect’ mentality. Born from the discovery that 45% (or annually over 1 billion dollars worth) of perfectly edible fruit and vegetables are never harvested - due to their ‘imperfect’ size, shape, or colour - we’re on a mission to harvest this produce and redistribute it to those in need. Sending perfectly good food straight to compost, landfill or in many cases simply mulching over it while it’s still in the ground - is just not good enough. It's not good enough for the growers who’ve poured their time, energy and resources into growing this beautiful, abundance of food, and it's not good enough for the many Kiwis who struggle to afford fresh, nutritious produce to put on the table. How you can help?
1. Sign up for free to join our Imperfect Rescue Community, do some gleaning services in our local farms; volunteer your time to deliver this food to other 17 food rescue charities in NZ, or help us to host local events to spread our love of this food to others and many more;
2. Subscribe to our weekly vegetables and fruits box to deliver to your doorstep, you're helping NZ to save 936kg of food loss per year and as much water you'd drink in 52 years

Every day, tonnes of perfectly edible food are overlooked simply because they do not look "perfect".

🍅 Not every tomato looks perfect.

Some are oddly shaped, some are uneven in color, and some would never make it onto a supermarket display. Yet each one has its own character and value.

Standing in a Canadian farmers' market, surrounded by these vibrant tomatoes, I was reminded that people and food are much the same. We don't need to fit a perfect mold to be worthy. Sometimes, our differences are exactly what make us beautiful.

💚 Perfectly imperfect.

Stormy weather today.
Hoping it clears soon so we can return to the fields and continue the next phase of our food rescue work.
Until then, we keep preparing behind the scenes.

This Tuesday, our founder at perfectlyimperfect visited Mt Albert Grammar School to take part in the Inspiring the Future Aotearoa programme!
During the event, our founder shared real stories from our work in food rescue, waste reduction, and community support — hoping to help young people see broader possibilities for their futures and feel encouraged to explore their own paths bravely.
Being able to step into a school and connect with the next generation face‑to‑face is one of the most meaningful parts of what we do at perfectlyimperfect. We look forward to partnering with more schools and communities in the future, continuing to grow our impact together! 💚✨
