🌊 Massive shout out to the incredible team at Ōrewa Surf Life Saving Club 💛

We absolutely love having the club as part of the HBC Youth Hauora Network and wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the amazing mahi they do for our community and rangatahi.

Surf Life Saving is so much more than patrolling the beach - it creates opportunities for young people to build confidence, leadership, resilience, teamwork, and lifelong friendships, all while learning practical lifesaving skills and giving back to the community.

The club provides such a positive, supportive environment for rangatahi to connect, grow, challenge themselves, and feel part of something bigger 🌿

Ngā mihi nui to everyone involved at Ōrewa Surf Life Saving Club for the aroha and energy you pour into supporting young people across the Coast.

Thank you to our local Orewa lifeguards and other lifeguards across the country for putting in the hours to keep our community safe in and around the water this season!

With Cyclone Vaianu tracking toward Aotearoa, we want to ensure our community are aware and well prepared. While we’ve all become familiar with severe weather events in recent times, each one brings its own challenges, and it’s important we don’t become complacent.

From 2000hrs Friday 10 April 2026 until 0600 Monday 13 April 2026, we strongly advise everyone to stay clear of the water as the forecasted conditions across the North Island poses significant risk.

Our Search and Rescue Squad will remain on call throughout the weather event to assist our community and emergency services where needed.

Your safety and the safety of your whānau comes first. Please check in with your loved ones and ensure they are safe, supported, and well-prepared for the days ahead.

➡️Secure your whare and property - high winds and surface flooding are a strong possibility.

➡️Avoid unnecessary travel wherever possible once conditions deteriorate however if you do need to travel take the time to identify alternative routes in case of road closures or slips.

➡️Fully charge phones, torches, and battery packs in advance.

➡️Have enough clean fresh water and food for 3-4 days.

➡️Keep an eye on weather updates and warnings from trusted websites:

Here's hoping that Vaianu decides to head east in the next 48hrs and that these precautionary measures are not needed and we are just left with a nice ground swell.
