Fun day today!

Unfortunately had 2 dog spays not turn up but we made up for it with 6 TNR’s (one turned out to already have been TNR’d but forgot what the trap is) 2 cat neuters, 1 urgent eye removal for a kitten in rescue, 5 puppy vaccines, 3 cat vaccines and lots and lots of cuddles!!

We will continue to urge to get your cats and dogs desexed!! There are too many strays on the streets fighting to survive - don’t add to it, foster for rescues if you want to experience puppies or kittens!

ā€¼ļøDiago and the importance of a microchip (that is registered)ā€¼ļø

Today we had a cat brought in after finally going into a trap, to be scanned for a chip, and if no chip then to be desexed, chipped and vaccinated and return to the property he had taken up residence at for the past year.

Over the past year, the house owners and neighbours had been feeding and caring for Diago - they’d even set up a little shelter house for him outside. No one could get near him to get him to a vet - so he just hung around.

Overnight, he finally went into the trap! Once we sedated him we were thrilled to find a microchip. Even better, find it was registered!!! We were able to ring Jodie to let her know we had him and if he was missing. Turns out, he had missing for just over a year, and was presumed to have crossed the rainbow bridge due to the circumstance of him going missing. Safe to say Jodie was not expecting a call to say we had him and was absolutely over the moon. He had taken up residence over a 30minute drive away - he’d gone from Huapai to Milldale.

As soon as Jodie put her hand near him, he let out a little gentle meow and rolled over - with us, he wanted to eat us šŸ˜‚ she was able to put her hand in and give him cuddles - the first pats he’d had in over a year. It was clear he missed her.

After being home for only a few hours, we’ve been sent these photos of him settled back in very quickly! He’s attached to his mums hip and will not let her out of his sight! We thought after a year in socialised he may need time but nope!

This was a very happy outcome and is all thanks to him having a microchip with up to date details. Please please please chip your pets! And if they are chipped, check that the details are up to date!

This also goes to show how cats that are owned and loved, can appear ā€œferalā€ when they are in a trap. At first glance, he seemed like a unsocialised, stray cat, but in reality he was just lost and very scared. Unfortunately with the new predator free cat hunting, a lot of these cats are being killed because they look ā€œferalā€ when they are caught in a trap and absolutely petrified and will result in a number of lost and scared pets being sacrificed at the lack of education and willingness to get them scanned BEFORE being killed rather than after if at all.

Join us in wishing our wonderful vet Neil a happy birthday!!
After our 12 procedures today we took a break for some yummy cake to celebrate Neil’s birthday (which was yesterday).
We are very grateful for all he does for us and the animals we help. Without his speedy hands we wouldn’t be able to help as many animals that we do!

What a fantastic day we had today desexing 19 cats for Awhi Mai rescue. All cats were desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and received a flea and worm treatment free of charge thanks to everyone who supports us to be able to give back to rescues such as this.
Everything went soooo smoothly and quickly! Our two vets (with the help of our nurses of course) managed to get them all done within 3.5 hours!
Thanks to our volunteers who took time out of their weekend to come in and thank you to everyone who donated cat items - we managed to get a whole car load!
We look forward to more big days like this!
