Here's a reminder of how important community really is.

When emergencies happen, it’s not just one group that steps forward — it’s ordinary people and dedicated organisations working together to protect and care for others.

A huge thank you to the amazing team at the Orewa Surf Club, alongside Fire and Emergency NZ and St John, who responded so quickly and professionally when they were required during the 2023 emergency situation. These people are volunteers, neighbours, friends, and everyday heroes who give their time to keep our community safe.

At Hibiscus Coast Neighbourhood Support, we believe caring for your neighbours can make all the difference. A friendly face, a helping hand, checking in on someone living alone, or simply knowing who to call in a crisis can save lives and bring comfort when it’s needed most.

We’re asking you today — please consider joining Hibiscus Coast Neighbourhood Support. It’s FREE, it’s local, and it’s about building a stronger, safer, more connected community for everyone.

Together, we can create neighbourhoods where people look out for one another, where vulnerable people are not forgotten, and where no one feels alone in difficult times.

Be part of something that truly matters.
Be part of a community that cares. ❤️

🚨 URGENT SCAM ALERT: "Fake Police" Phone Calls 🚨

We have received a warning from Police regarding a sophisticated scam targeting communities.

How the scam works:
You receive a call from someone claiming to be a Police Officer from an unknown number.

They claim to be running an undercover operation into fraudulent bank notes at local banks.

They ask you to withdraw cash as "evidence" and give you a script to use with bank staff.

The scammer asks for bank note serial numbers and then sends a courier to your house to collect the money.

The Truth:
New Zealand Police will NEVER ask you to withdraw money, hand over cash, or ask for your PIN/passwords over the phone.

How to Report & Get Help:
Report to Netsafe: If you encounter a scam, report it online at netsafe.org.nz/report-online or call their Scams Helpline at 0508 NETSAFE.

Report to Police: If you have been a victim, call 105 immediately and notify your bank.

What to do if you get a call:
Hang up immediately.

Stay safe and stay vigilant, Hibiscus Coast!

Update on Waiwera Slip - there is an expectation that the road will be cleared by 8.30pm this evening.

Residents of the affected apartments will also be able to return to their homes this evening if they choose.

Riverhaven Hall is still an option for anyone that needs it.

Extremely fortunate that no one was hurt in this situation. Great to see so many caring people helping each other.
