KNŻ would like to extend its support to MGRM, in light of the recent commentary made by Conrad Borg Manché. The critique of capitalist overreach does not override the movement as a whole, and we are disappointed at the very simplistic approach Dr Borg Manché has applied to policy.
Pride started as a protest against injustice and inequity, and its message rings true today, when we still do not enjoy true equality, even with the massive progress in policy and rights for q***r and trans people, and for the general public in Malta and Gozo.
Real limitations affect all persons living in Malta, especially when viewing policy and access intersectionally, and real threats to rights and progress exist in the form of extremist partisan rhetoric, political dog whistling both in the form of politicians trivialising the importance of centring q***r and trans voices, and in more explicit cases of European states rolling back rights, and the gaps between legislated rights and the real-world lived experience of q***r and trans persons.
