Malta Employers A constituted body which brings together employers from all sectors of industry and commerce in Malta.

The discussions at the 114th International Labour Conference in Geneva have come to an end, bringing together social partners in a collaborative setting focused on how the world of work is being reshaped by artificial intelligence and global geopolitical instability, with clear implications for jobs, skills and labour market resilience.

There was strong consensus on the need to strengthen social dialogue, invest in reskilling and ensure that both workers and employers are equipped for the transitions ahead.

Speaking at the 114th ๐—œ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—Ÿ๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ ๐—–๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ณ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ฒ, Malta Employers President Ivan Refalo warned that global conflict, now at its highest level since World War II, is having a direct impact on employment patterns, migration flows and labour market dynamics.

At the same time, ๐—”๐—œ ๐—ถ๐˜€ ๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜€๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—บ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐˜„๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—น๐—ฑ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐˜„๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ธ at an unprecedented pace, with hundreds of millions of jobs expected to be affected, creating both challenges and opportunities for workers and employers alike.

Refalo called for stronger cooperation between social partners and a renewed focus on ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐—ธ๐—ถ๐—น๐—น๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด, ๐—ฝ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ฑ๐˜‚๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ถ๐˜๐˜† ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฟ-๐˜ƒ๐—ฎ๐—น๐˜‚๐—ฒ ๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ถ๐—ฐ ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ถ๐˜๐˜† to ensure labour markets remain competitive and resilient.

With Malta facing a ๐—น๐—ผ๐˜„ ๐—ฏ๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐˜๐—ต ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐—ฎ๐—ด๐—ฒ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐˜„๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ธ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ, he stressed the need to maximise labour market participation through longer working lives, family-friendly measures and flexible work arrangements. Malta Employers extends its congratulations to the Partit Laburista on its victory in the General Election and looks forward to engaging in constructive social dialogue with Prime Minister Dr Robert Abela and the new Government on the key economic and social challenges facing the country, particularly those relating to employment, industrial relations, competitiveness and sustainable economic development.

The Association also congratulates the Partit Nazzjonalista and its leader, Dr Alex Borg, on the in-roads registered in this election. A stronger and more effective Opposition is an essential pillar for a healthier democracy, good governance and better accountability throughout the forthcoming legislature.

Malta Employers further commends both political leaders, Dr Robert Abela and Dr Alex Borg, for conducting a largely constructive electoral campaign characterised by mutual respect and a commitment to national unity. At a time when many countries are experiencing increasing political polarisation, the tone adopted throughout much of the campaign and immediately after the publication of the result, demonstrated a shared recognition that the national interest must remain paramount.
