Unafraid. Unstoppable. CIVIL – Center for Freedom (est. 1999) is a human rights and democracy organization based in North Macedonia. Through its multimedia platform CIVIL Media, the organization produces news, analyses, educational programs, and public events that defend freedom, truth, and human dignity. CIVIL works to defend freedom and democracy, counter disinformation and hybrid threats, oppos
e nationalism and authoritarianism, and stand in solidarity with Ukraine and global democratic movements. Since 2008, CIVIL has been a pioneer in election observation, citizen engagement, and media innovation. Internationally, CIVIL is a co-founder of the Defending Democracy Global Initiative (DDGI) and its flagship program, the Westminster Alliance for Ukraine (WA4U). The organization collaborates with Media Dialogue, Youth4Media, and the New European People’s Forum (NEPF) from Germany, as well as the Jean Monnet Association (France) and Centro Studi Internazionali (Italy). CIVIL is open to new partnerships and networks, and is a longstanding member of the International Action Network on Small Arms and the Control Arms coalition. Regionally, CIVIL is part of the LogEx community and the Western Balkans Civil Society Platform, led by The Balkan Forum. Together with partners across Europe and beyond, CIVIL works to strengthen democracy, solidarity, and resilience against authoritarian influence.
