A strong start for the Erasmus+ project AAV – Active Age Volunteering!

From 14 to 16 April 2026, CESES, LSC, SPDH – partners of the project AAV– met for the first time in Luxembourg for the Kick-Off Meeting, marking the beginning of this exciting European project focused on promoting active ageing and volunteering among older people.

During the event, partners had the opportunity to get to know each other, exchange perspectives, visit the city of Luxembourg and hold the first consortium meeting, where the foundations and next steps of the project were established.
The consortium also signed the Memorandum of Understanding, reinforcing the partners’ shared commitment to the project objectives.

The programme included 2 inspiring study visits to EwB and Gero, where participants explored good practices related to senior training, active participation, and community engagement initiatives for older people.

This successful first event gave a very positive start to the AAV project, and all partners are looking forward to the collaboration and activities ahead.

Today we celebrate Europe and the values that bring us together: peace, democracy, dignity, and equal rights for everyone, at every age. Because democracy shines brightest when every voice joins in including the voices of older people.

Article 25 of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights guarantees older persons the right to a life of dignity, independence and full participation in social and cultural life. Today, we celebrate that right and the people who bring it to life every day.

That is the spirit of AGES (Active Governance and Engagement for Seniors) Across Europe, we are bringing seniors, civil society and decision-makers together; through consultations, focus groups, webinars and policy dialogue, so that older people don't just have a voice, they help shape the conversation.

We celebrate a Europe that listens, includes, and grows stronger with every generation.

🔹 Democracy needs every voice — at every age.

We are proud to introduce AGES – Active Governance and Engagement for Seniors, a European project that promotes the democratic participation and civic engagement of older people across Europe. It started on 1 January 2026 and will run until 31 December 2027.

Through consultations, focus groups, policy dialogue, conferences and an awareness campaign, AGES will bring together seniors, civil society organisations and policymakers in Cyprus, Spain, France and Italy, as well as at European level. The project aims to identify the barriers older people face in participating in democratic life, highlight their rights, and support more inclusive and responsive governance.

AGES is about making sure that older people are not only heard, but actively involved in shaping the conversations and decisions that affect their lives.
Because active citizenship has no age limit.

We are pleased to announce that the project AAV – Active Age Volunteering, a new Erasmus+ cooperation project, officially started on 1 March 2026 and will run until 31 August 2027.
The project is funded by the European Union through the Luxembourg National Agency Anefore .

AAV brings together three committed partner organisations:

🔹Luxembourg Senior Consultants (Luxembourg)
🔹Stichting Present Den Haag (The Netherlands)
🔹Confederation of European Senior Expert Services (Belgium)

The project aims to strengthen the capacity of volunteering organisations to design, manage and sustain long-term programmes that engage older people as active volunteers.
It also seeks to reduce the digital divide and promote:

✔ Lifelong learning
✔ Intergenerational solidarity
✔ Active ageing
✔ Social participation

We look forward to sharing the progress and results of this exciting European collaboration.

🤝🌍 Civil Society Week 2026

From 2–5 March 2026, Civil Society Week was organised by the European Economic and Social Committee under the theme “People, Democracy, Resilience – Our Future!”

💬 The event brought together civil society organisations, EU policymakers and stakeholders from across Europe to exchange views on how civil society can strengthen democratic participation, support social resilience and ensure that European policies reflect the needs of different generations.

🌍 The programme also addressed key topics such as intergenerational fairness, inclusion and the role of civil society networks in building more resilient and cohesive communities across Europe.

🎓🇪🇺 Shaping the future of Erasmus+ together

📍 Yesterday, CESES took part in a stakeholder dialogue at the European Parliament, focused on education, training and skills in the framework of the future Erasmus+ programme (2028–2034).

💬 Our Executive Director, Ismael Páez Cívico, underlined the importance of keeping Erasmus+ accessible to learners of all ages, with intergenerational exchange of knowledge as a core pillar of European education policies. He also highlighted the need for structural funding and long-term sustainability for established EU networks, enabling them to continue delivering impact at local and European level.

🤝 The dialogue reaffirmed the value of involving civil society organisations and senior experts in shaping inclusive, future-oriented education and skills programmes.

✨ CESES remains committed to promoting senior expertise as a strategic resource for lifelong learning, intergenerational cooperation and social cohesion across Europe.

📘 CESES is proud to present its SENT 2025 Work Programme

📖 The work programme highlights a year of coordinated action dedicated to promoting the value of senior expertise across Europe. It provides a comprehensive overview of SENT activities, bringing together CESES member organisations and senior volunteers through mentoring, training, capacity-building, working groups, conferences, policy actions and dissemination activities.

🤝 By engaging participants at local, national and European levels, the SENT 2025 Work Programme has strengthened skills ecosystems, fostered intergenerational cooperation and supported knowledge transfer for the benefit of young people, SMEs, institutions and communities.

✨ Strengthening Exchange: SES Regional Meeting in Regensburg

🤝 At CESES, we know that meaningful impact begins with meaningful exchange. That’s why we are pleased to highlight the latest Regionaltagung, held last month at the Handwerkskammer Niederbayern-Oberpfalz in Regensburg.

‼️ Organised around ten times a year, these Regional Meetings offer SES Senior Experts a dedicated space for networking, learning, and open dialogue. They play a crucial role in strengthening the expert community, answering questions directly from volunteers, and fostering a collaborative environment where experience truly thrives.

💼 This edition was particularly special, as it was made possible through our SENT Programme– Senior Experts Nurturing Talent Programme. We are proud to collaborate with SES in initiatives that promote high-quality senior expertise and expand opportunities for meaningful engagement across Europe.

💬 Gatherings like this reaffirm the importance of ongoing exchange — ensuring that senior experts feel supported, connected, and empowered to deliver their knowledge where it creates real impact.

🎓🤝 Building Connections: Matching Mentors & Students 2025

🗓️ On November 6, 2025, the “Matching Mentors & Students” event took place in Paris, celebrating the successful partnership between Sorbonne Paris University and OTECI during the 2024–2025 academic year.

🧩 Over eight months, 13 OTECI mentors supported 37 students in developing 23 innovative projects, helping them to cultivate an entrepreneurial spirit and guiding them every step of the way.

✨ Following the success of this collaboration, the program has been renewed for the 2025–2026 academic year. During this kick-off event, new mentor-student teams were formed, and each group defined a roadmap to start their projects with focus and ambition.

💬 Commitment and collaboration were the key words of the evening, highlighting the transformative power of intergenerational mentorship and hands-on learning.

💫Stravol.To 2025

🇮🇹 We recently hosted in Torino Stravol.To 2025, a lively civic engagement initiative together with in celebration of International Volunteer Day. The event brought together volunteers from local organisations, senior expert volunteers, young citizens, and italian national civil service participants - creating a meaningful space for intergenerational cooperation and shared learning.

🧩 A total of 132 participants, grouped into 15 mixed-age teams, took part in a dynamic
city challenge across central turin. Through creative activities such as photographic missions, small street art actions, puzzles, riddles, citizen interviews, and short artistic compositions, teams fostered collaboration and made the presence of volunteering visible in the urban landscape - engaging passers-by and inspiring potential new volunteers.

🇪🇺 This initiative reflects the added value of collaborative efforts supported through the SENT - Senior Experts Nurturing Talent Programme, reinforcing our commitment to encouraging high-quality senior engagement and fostering meaningful volunteering opportunities across europe.

💬 Stravol.To 2025 stands as a strong example of how volunteering can unite generations, promote civic participation, and strengthen community ties.
