Update on the family of 5 and mum from under the hedge, all going well 4 are about 70g and the little one is 49g Mum is over 1100g eyes starting to open which is spot on for 2 weeks. The weighing and photos were all done very quickly while we changed the nest bag as mum had saturated it with wee.

Unusual call from some builders this morning. They are renovating a house and found a mum and 3 new born hoglets under their dust sheets inside the house! They had heard noises yesterday and thought it could be a rat! They were so kind and did all the right things, covered the family over again and phoned up. They lifted a board where one babe had gone underneath to let me pick it up. Mum and family are now next to the other family in our cold end where it is quiet and are being left strictly alone to give mum the best chance of rearing them. They are so new, she may not want to look after them having been disturbed and brought here by car.........more later when I know more......... The picture is off the internet not a photo of where they were found to give you an idea of what it was like, nothing soft to nest in apart from the dust sheets in a corner.

Nina from the JSPCA has asked if we can share with them our network of release sites where you good people provide food and water and shelter for the hedgehogs which visit you and the extra ones we sometimes ask you to take from us. Because of Data Protection regs I cannot provide her with everyone's contact details, so the simplest thing is, if you would like to release hogs which have been in care at the JSPCA, please contact them direct yourselves on 01534 724331. Many thanks for your help

This is the second day in a row we have had to have a hog put to sleep with a nose wound. Branchage season is well and truly here. I thought I had taken a picture of today's admission but it has disappeared from the camera. No bad thing really. The end of the nose was hanging off, sliced right through. Yesterday we put an end to the suffering of the little one from near Hamptonne, her nose did not reduce in size and she was struggling to breathe at the end, it was the only thing to do. We cannot say it enough PLEASE CHECK BEFORE YOU CHOP!
