Canine Control and Care is a Pune based NGO. The main objective of CCC is to reduce the stray dog/cat population in Pune by sterilization. We neuter and vaccinate the stray dog/cat free of cost. The dog or cat is brought to us by volunteers or concerned members of society. Our own vets and assistants perform the surgery. We spay/neuter the stray dogs/cats under general anaesthesia and notch the ea

rs to mark the sterilized dogs. We also vaccinate the operated dog against Rabies. We post operative care at a nominal charge of Rs 400 per dog. We have our own Post Op facility at Home on the Hill in Bhugaon. We also conduct ABC surgeries at Blue Cross. We urge all animal lovers to conduct feeding programs in their locality. This enables you to befriend the strays and bring them to us for surgery.

As per government data, there is approximately one stray dog for every 100 people in India. While it is not possible or feasible to find homes for every stray dog, what truly makes a difference is being a responsible human in their presence.

Not everyone loves stray dogs, but the ones who care for them can give them a safe and dignified life by feeding them responsibly and getting them sterilised and vaccinated.

Mother Teresa once said, “If you can't feed a hundred people, then just feed one.” The same holds true for stray animals as well, especially stray dogs, who suffer tremendously on the streets without access to food, water, or shelter. The suffering of stray dogs in India would reduce significantly if each citizen accepted responsibility for providing food for one stray dog in their area and arranged for the dog to be spayed or neutered. Additionally, this would result in better management of their population in each community and reduce human-dog conflict.

Stray dogs don't have a voice to ask for food, water, or protection from abuse or cruelty. We have to become their voice.

CCC offers sterilisation services for stray dogs in Pune, PCMC, and other areas at no cost. Every dog sterilised at our centre is vaccinated and provided post-operative care as per the 5-day sterilisation process established by the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI).

Hachiko – The Story of Undying Love and Loyalty!

"Hachiko," or "Hachi" was an Akita dog born in Japan in 1923. He gained worldwide recognition because of his remarkable loyalty, love, and unwavering devotion towards his owner, Professor Hidesaburo Ueno.

Every day, Hachiko would accompany Professor Ueno to the Shibuya train station in Tokyo and wait for him to return from work. Tragically, in 1925, Professor Ueno passed away suddenly and never returned to the station. Despite this, Hachiko continued to go to the station every day for nearly 10 years, faithfully waiting for his beloved owner.

Hachiko's unwavering loyalty touched the hearts of Japanese people and around the world. He was called “Chuken-Hachiko,” which means “Hachiko – the faithful dog.” Hachiko's story spread, and he became a beloved figure in Japanese culture, while also inspiring several movies and stories over the years.

He has a bronze statue right next to the Shibuya train station where hundreds of visitors take photographs. His legacy continues to inspire people to this day.

Akita dogs are calm, intelligent, sincere, brave, and are also known for their stubbornness.

Vaccinate and Sterilise Stray Dogs for a Healthier Tomorrow!

At CCC, along with sterilisation, all stray dogs are also vaccinated. They receive a free Anti-Rabies Vaccine (ARV) and a 9-in-1 vaccine. The dual vaccination protects the stray dogs from deadly diseases and also promotes their long-term health, safety, and well-being.

Besides this, CCC also organises Free ARV drives across Pune PMC, PCMC, and other nearby areas to vaccinate stray dogs. By doing this, CCC is helping build a healthier environment not just for the stray dogs but also for the human community as well.

Vaccinating stray dogs builds herd immunity within the canine population. By combining sterilisation with vaccination, CCC ensures a responsible way of controlling the canine population while also safeguarding public health.

Rabies Vaccination Schedule: What You Need to Know

Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) is the treatment given to a person who may have been exposed to the rabies virus through an animal bite or scratch. If you have been bitten or scratched by an unknown dog, you will need to follow the post-exposure rabies vaccination schedule as given below:

Rabies vaccination schedule after a bite/exposure:

Day 0 – First dose (take as soon as possible after the bite/exposure)
Day 3 – Second dose
Day 7 – Third dose
Day 14 – Fourth dose
Day 28 – Fifth dose

It is extremely important to complete all five doses for rabies prevention and take the vaccine at a hospital or authorized center. Rabies is a 100% preventable viral disease if treated on time. Do not wait for the symptoms to appear, as it could be fatal.

CCC conducts FREE Rabies Awareness Training Sessions for schools, colleges, offices, hospitals, and government offices! These sessions are available in person, online via Google Meet/Zoom, and can be delivered in Marathi, English, or Hindi.

This initiative is in support of the global mission to eliminate rabies by 2030. To know more, please write to us at : [email protected] or [email protected]
