Compassionate classroom 5th week of September Recap

Interactive workshops were organized with children in Bhopal and Delhi on dog bite prevention, rabies awareness, and animal sensitivity. Through various activities, students learned about safe behavior around dogs, essential steps to take in case of a dog bite, rabies prevention, and responsible, compassionate care toward animals.
Key Outcomes
Dog Bite & Rabies Prevention: Enhanced children's awareness and vigilance regarding safe behavior and rabies prevention.
Animal Sensitivity: Encouraged kindness, empathy, and responsible behavior toward animals among students.
Knowledge Sharing: Inspired children to share the information they learned with their families and community.
These workshops contributed to developing positive understanding among children across all three levels, safety, awareness, and animal compassion.

Another important step towards a safer and more compassionate Delhi! 🙏💕

Our speechless companions who live alongside us on every street deserve safety, care, and love. Behind their quiet presence is a hope for a gentler and a kinder world.

Driven by this spirit, STRAW (Stray Relief and Animal Welfare) in association with Sonadi Charitable Trust, New Delhi, conducted a successful vaccination Drive, wherein we vaccinated 101 community dogs and cats, arounds the schools where we had conducted awarenss programs, at Uttamnagar, New Delhi.

We believe that this is a meaningful step toward securing the health and well-being of both the animals and the humans living around them.

And this is just the beginning and our campaign to create awareness followed by sterilization and vaccination in and around the school areas, continues in other parts of Delhi! 🐾✨

July - September 2026 I Quarterly Recap

Our humane education initiatives reached 10,085 students across Bangalore, Bhopal, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Kanpur, during the period July to September 2026 while our educational content on social media also step-jumped to reach 189K people.

This incredible reach was made possible because schools were operating at full momentum with uninterrupted academic calendars. Beyond that, the strong impact and quality of our programs led several schools to request repeat sessions for additional classes. While the upcoming months will naturally bring festive breaks and reduced school days, this quarter set a powerful benchmark for our outreach.

Alongside education, 144 community dogs & cats received anti-rabies vaccinations, bringing together classroom awareness and on-ground action for safer coexistence.

We are deeply grateful to Help Animals India for continually trusting our work and supporting our workshops and helping us take humane education to a larger number of students.

Big thanks to CHAL USA for supporting the vaccination efforts and on-ground work that made these initiatives possible and complete. These vaccination drives were conducted in the very same premises where we carried out Dog Bite Prevention & Rabies awareness workshops. So it was creating awareness + hands-on action.

Every effort takes us a step closer to a more compassionate world.

What happens when students start asking the really big questions about animals?

We had an incredible time with the energetic 5th and 6th graders at VIP International School (Asif Nagar Branch). Going well beyond the fundamentals, our session covered animal sentience, human-animal relationships, the daily lives of dogs, and crucial insights into why dog bites occur and how to stay safe

They floored us with insightful questions, asking how to spot rabies symptoms in dogs, what local municipalities actually do to manage stray populations, and most importantly, “How can we help the dogs?” Seeing their eager minds decode dog behaviour and choose compassion over fear was heartwarming.

Huge gratitude to the wonderful principal and staff for their top-notch hospitality. The principal’s passion for instilling genuine empathy in her students set the perfect tone for the day.

Compassionate Horizon Program: Week 4 Highlights 🐾

This week, students across Bangalore and Hyderabad explored what it truly means to care for animals in a rapidly changing world.

Here’s what our young change-makers reflected on:

Abheek Academy: "Can we coexist with wildlife?" Students realized that wildlife belongs to this planet just as much as we do, exploring solutions to urban human-wildlife conflict.

Redbridge International Academy: "Is it okay to put a price on a life?" Learning that friends should be made, not bought, students embraced adoption over buying pets.

Indic International School: Students learned the responsibilities of being a good pet guardian and uncovered the harsh reality of keeping wild animals in captivity. Moved by the truth, students pledged never to keep wild animals as pets.

Delhi Public School: We celebrated Red Panda Week by exploring how kindness and compassion can protect vulnerable species.

Compassionate Classroom across Bhopal & Delhi | Week 4 Recap

Empathy can be nurtured from the earliest years. In Bhopal, our youngest students learned animal welfare concepts through interactive storytelling and play, connecting classroom activities directly to acts of compassion in their daily lives.

Building on these foundational values, older students in Bhopal and Delhi tackled practical safety and care, dispelling rabies myths and learning responsible waste disposal practices, like securing broken glass to protect community animals from injury.

Different classrooms, one shared purpose: helping children turn understanding into choices that make the world safer and kinder for all beings.

Compassionate Echoes at National Institute of Technical Teachers' Training and Research (NITTTR), Bhopal

Concerns and conflicts involving community dogs had become an ongoing issue at NITTTR, Bhopal. To help address these challenges through awareness and informed action, STRAW India was invited to conduct a Compassionate Echoes workshop for the students.

Through discussions about community dogs, dog bite prevention, rabies awareness, and animal protection laws, students gained a better understanding of dog behaviour and the importance of compassionate coexistence. The faculty & students understood how harmony with community dogs & respecting their space is a more effective and humane solution than fear, conflict, relocation or killing dogs.

As a follow-up to the workshop, the institute has decided to conduct an Anti-Rabies Vaccination Drive on campus to help keep both students and community dogs safe.
