Yesterday in Jaipur, we celebrated the courageous women drivers from Azad's programme as part of the 'Women Steering Change' initiative, supported by SBI Foundation under their Sashakti vertical.

Esteemed guests including Rajasthan Chief Secretary Shri Srinivas Voruganti, Rajasthan Transport Department Principal Secretary Shri Bhawani Singh Detha and Azad Foundation Governing Board Chairperson Alka Sharma said words of encouragement to the women drivers as they shared their inspirational journeys. Shri Srinivas and Shri Bhawani shared the government's commitment to ensuring ease in Permanent Licensing process and creating opportunities for women heavy-vehicle drivers in Rajasthan Transport and globally.

The day was a celebration of women breaking barriers, building livelihoods, and driving toward financial independence and leadership in the transport sector. Every story shared demonstrated transformation through confidence, opportunities, and a future powered by women at steering the wheel — of cars and their own lives.

Here's to creating safer roads, stronger communities, and a more equitable future—one journey at a time.

On Dakshayani Velayudhan’s birth anniversary, we honour a pioneer who challenged caste and gender barriers at every step of her life.

The only Dalit woman and one of the youngest members of our Constituent Assembly, Dakshayani Velayudhan broke social taboos from childhood, became the first Dalit woman graduate from Cochin (now Kochi), and used her voice to advocate for equality, dignity, and justice. A steadfast supporter of abolishing untouchability, she championed Article 17 of the Indian Constitution.

She believed lasting change required transforming hearts and minds through education and sustained public action. She envisioned a Constitution that would not merely govern a nation, but create "a new framework of life" for those long denied equality.

Her life embodied that vision. She challenged caste discrimination not only through her words but through her choices, breaking barriers in education, public life, and politics while refusing to accept exclusion as inevitable.

Today, we honour her legacy and renew our commitment to the unfinished work of social equality.

Our programmes’ trainees and staff took to the streets of Delhi performing songs and plays to create awareness about Azad’s campaign — on the systemic inequality of unpaid done by mostly women and girls.

We encourage dialogue around shared responsibilities, challenging traditional norms on gendered care work. The transformation of our society needs active support from all its members to create an equal and gender-just world for each one of us.

In a patriarchal society like ours, women and girls often lack a private and safe place where they feel comfortable enough to share their troubles and struggles and seek community outside the confines of their homes. Thus, the need to have a safe space of one’s own.

Azad’s first Community Resource Center in Jhalana Doongari, Jaipur aims to be that space. A place to learn, share, and access support, for women and girls, free of any judgement or fear.

Our community center will also work as a resource hub and mentoring platform for women in non-traditional professions, and support zone for survivors of gender-based violence.

With this, we take one step forward to create inclusive spaces in the communities we work in.
