Double Treat at Ragasudha!

Pushkaram Trust's July concerts happened yesterday (12th July) at Ragasudha Hall with two brilliant performances.

Concert 1: Vidushi Ragasudha Balasubramanian.

The evening began delightfully with the talented, young Vidushi Ragasudha Balasubramanian. Fittingly performing "Ragasudha at Ragasudha," she opened with the Kamboji Varnam, Pankajaakshi, followed by a deeply moving rendering of Edhayya Gathi that felt like total surrender. Her grand explorations of Purvikalyani and Gowrimanohari—interspersed with the all-time favourite Samagaana Lolane—made for a beautifully structured, neat concert. She received superb accompaniment from Thrissur’s violin talent Adhithya Anil and the very young, promising mridangist A. P. Mahizhan. The second half brought a soothing, breezy experience by Vid. Adithyanarayanan S. He was in total focus and calm, opening with Maravakave in Ragam Saama alongside firecracker swarams. He then transitioned into a calming Sadhachaleshwaram (Bhoopalam) by Sri Muthuswami Diksh*tar, moved seamlessly into Janani Ninnu Vina (Reethigowlai), and picked up the pace with a peppy Varaalandhu. The grand finale was a majestic rendition of Shankarabaranam (Emi Neramu).His poised singing completely engulfed a packed house, keeping the audience glued to their seats until the very end. A huge shoutout to the powerhouse accompanists—Vid. Madan Mohan (Violin), Vid. Praveen Sparsh (Mridangam), and Vid. K. V. Gopalakrishnan (Kanjira)—whose stellar playing elevated the entire dynamics of the concert.

24th May, Sunday - Today couldn’t have been better. Two classy concerts made Day 2 of the Pushkaram Summer Festival a grand success.

Vid. Dr. Lakshmipriya R along with Vid. Sriramya Mantha, Vid. Pazani Balaji, and Vid. Harikishore, delivered a power-packed performance. Lakshmipriya’s bold yet nuanced singing left a deep impact on the audience. The Saveri ragam, followed by the Narayana Theerthar composition “karuṇayāvaya lōkaya mām śrī narasimha” tuned by her mother Vid. Dr. Hemalatha, was truly beautiful. The grand Kharaharapriya and Chakkani Raja further elevated the concert experience.

This was followed by a deeply spiritual and goosebumps-inducing concert by Vidhwan Kalyanapuram S. Aravind, with excellent support from Vid. H. N. Bhaskar and Vid. Poongulam Subramaniam.

In our daily lives, we place countless questions before the Almighty, seeking answers. Echoing this very thought, the concert themed “Anubhava – Jijñāsā to Vismaya” beautifully brought out the questioning spirit of various composers through their sahithya, in search of profound answers from the divine.

One cannot fathom the amount of sadhana and exploration a vidhwan undertakes to bring together voice, musical technicality, the deeper meaning of compositions, and a rendition style that perfectly aligns with the bhava of the keerthanai.
Kudos to Vid. Kalyanapuram S. Aravind and team for this unforgettable experience.

Day one of the Pushkaram Summer Festival delivered two undoubtedly fantastic concerts.

Concert 1: The festival opened with a remarkably stable and deeply satisfying performance by Vid. Madhumitha Doraiswamy. Her smooth, controlled voice commanded the stage, effortlessly maintaining its strength and showing absolutely no strain from start to finish. She was brilliantly complemented by Vidwan Madan Mohan, Vidwan Jayendra Kumar, and Vidwan Ghatam Ganapathy, Kalyani mami on the tanpura all of whom provided excellent, intuitive support to elevate the kutcheri.

Concert 2: The evening continued at 6:15 PM with a soul-stirring performance by Vid. Dr. N. J. Nandini, alongwith Vid. Chidambaram Badrinath and Vid. Poongulam Subramaniam. Through her captivating voice and brilliant manodharma, Dr. Nandini truly brought the compositions of Maharaja Swathi Thirunal back to life touching the heart of every single rasika in attendance. Wonderful accompanists Vid. Chidambaram Badrinath & Vid. Poongulam Subramaniam embellished the concert beautifully.
