📓Research Highlights Late Night and Early Morning Risk for Young Drivers

New research from the Road Safety Authority Ireland highlights that late night and early morning driving presents the greatest risk for young drivers.

Between 2021 and 2025, 189 young drivers aged 17-25 were involved in fatal collisions in Ireland. More than half of these collisions occurred between 8pm and 4am.

Wherever you are coming from, make safe choices:
🚗 Slow down
📵 Avoid distractions
🔒 Wear your seatbelt
🚫 Never drive under the influence

Road safety is everyone's responsibility.

🔷🔶Many thanks to our volunteer crews for a busy day one at the 2026 National Ploughing Championships in Tullamore.

🔷🔶Our role was to assist the NPA team with four 4X4 support vehicles to assist patrons attending the event that required transportation.

🔷🔶We also have a recruitment stand in the Offaly pavilion and thanks to our colleagues in Westmeath and Longford units for your support today. Drop by tomorrow to Stand No 152, Row 8 Block 4 .

🔷🔶All Roads lead to the National Ploughing championships which take place in Screggan Tullamore County Offaly from Tuesday September 15th to Thursday September 17th. 2026 .

🔷🔶Allow plenty of time for your journey.
🔷🔶Follow the approved Routes to the Site .
🔷🔶Make note of the car park that you are directed to and take a photo of your vehicle and colour of the car park.
🔷🔶This will help you on your journey home .

🔷🔶Offaly Civil Defence reminds parents and guardians to have a contact number details attached to clothing or in a bag especially for the smaller ones that very easily may wander away.

This helps to reduce stress and knowing they will be reunited when they present themselves to Gardai, Stewards or Emergency services on Site or Stand holders.

🔷🔶We’re there to help you over the next 3 days. Block 2 Stand no 2 to reunite you with your loved ones .

On Saturday morning last we had a busy Day supporting the Offaly Athletics, Tullamore Harriers , Half Marathon 2026 Event

Over the course of the day we had 18 volunteers of various skill sets which included CFR, FAR, EFR and EMT covering the Medical Response at the event.
Our Response included 3 Ambulances which brought some patients from the race back to the medical Tent at the Harriers, Some Hospital Transfers were also required.

A big thank you to our colleagues in Westmeath and Laois units for assisting with Volunteers and Ambulance 🚑 support on the day.

A big thank you to our own team on the day who were busy at times especially at the finish line where some competitors needed that support and reassurance that they would be fine.

Our team were well prepared and were thanked by many of the competitors for their reassurance and support when required. We wish all who needed some further care a speedy recovery.
