THE SONG CYCLE Screens at Esker Arts tomorrow!

Filmmaker and musician Nick Kelly came to prominence as the lead singer of The Fat Lady Sings, and later as the acclaimed director of The Drummer and The Keeper. In 2022, Nick decided to cycle from his home in Dublin to the Glastonbury Festival in Somerset, England, carrying his guitar, tent, and all other necessities on his bicycle while playing shows in towns along the way. Nick was accompanied on his travels by his great friend and musical partner, Seán Millar, who joined him onstage every night. The Song Cycle is the story of their journey - veteran rockers risking life, limb and dignity in a story about Mother Nature, Father Time and brothers on the road.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Seán Millar. Seán will also be performing some of the songs from the film’s soundtrack. Seán has been described as “an Irish National treasure, the Poet Laureate of Dublin’s dark side” by The Irish Times and as “Ireland’s greatest lyricist” by the RTE Guide. Also known as Doctor Millar, Sean has released six critically-acclaimed solo albums, and has been nominated for many awards for his work. He is also an internationally-acclaimed theatre maker and composer.

Create Your Own TV Show Concept is a dynamic, one-day, in-person workshop in Dublin delivered by our friends at Cultural & Creative Industries Skillnet in partnership with Amazon.

Designed for aspiring creators and industry professionals alike, this course provides an engaging introduction to the process of developing original TV ideas.

Participants will learn how to transform creative concepts into fully realised, pitch-ready TV show formats across genres such as entertainment, lifestyle, documentary, and factual programming.

Through a series of interactive “development sprints,” attendees will build practical skills in shaping ideas, identifying strong hooks, aligning with current trends, and delivering compelling pitches.

Led by experienced industry experts, the workshop offers invaluable insight into how TV content is commissioned, developed, and produced. It is ideal for creative storytellers, content creators, and anyone interested in turning their ideas into viable television concepts.

The Galway Film Fair at the 38th Galway Film Fleadh is proud to announce that acclaimed actor, playwright and director Rory Kinnear will be the subject of this year's Actors Masterclass, proudly supported by Screen Ireland.

During this special three-hour masterclass, Kinnear will discuss his approach to performance, character development, and storytelling across screen and stage, offering invaluable insights into the craft of acting, sustaining a creative career, and navigating today's evolving film and television industry.

The masterclass will be facilitated by renowned Irish casting director Maureen Hughes, one of Ireland's most respected industry figures.

Winner of the Best Independent Film at the 56th Galway Film Fleadh and the Audience Choice Award at the IFI Documentary Festival, The Song Cycle tells the story of musician and director Nick Kelly’s novel attempt to travel by bicycle from Ireland to perform at the Glastonbury Festival, accompanied by his great friend and fellow musician Seán Millar who tracks his progress and performs onstage with him in venues along the route. A road movie, a musical, and an engaging, funny and moving meditation on art, mortality and friendship, The Song Cycle is presented as part of Men's Health Week and will be a fittingly feel-good launch for Ireland’s summer festival season.

The film will be followed by a Q&A with Seán Millar who will also be performing songs from the film.

A reminder about this excellent event that we will be hosting at Esker Arts on June 17th.

Nick Kelly World's documentary The Song Cycle opened to critical and audience acclaim last month. The film arrives at Tullamore with a Q&A and some live music with one of the stars of the film - Nick's songwriting partner Sean Millar.

Today sees the relaunch of FilmOffaly’s website

We've rejuvenated the site, dusted off a few digital cobwebs and improved functionality.

Among other things you'll find an interactive map outlining the 12 key filming locations in the county, some of which include specially commissioned video footage. You can also look up details on the many film and TV productions that we have hosted and supported over the years.

The site has been built to adapt and evolve as we continue to develop our general offering and our Location/Crew databases. So continue to watch this space!
