Citizenship fever swept across Foróige over the past number of weeks, with young people from right across the country coming together to showcase projects, share ideas and celebrate the positive impact they are making in their communities.

From packed showcase halls and performances to films, exhibitions and community action projects, the energy, creativity and passion on display at this year’s Citizenship Showcase events was incredible to see. Through their projects, Foróige young people highlighted the issues that matter to them and the change they want to create in their local areas.

A huge well done to every young person, volunteer and staff member involved.

💻 Today, Noah and Katelyn from Foróige’s Connect Safely Youth Advocacy Group addressed the Joint Committee on Children and Equality on the Safety and Wellbeing of Children Online.

Sharing their lived experiences, they spoke about misinformation, online harm and the need for safer, more accountable digital spaces.

Delighted to see youth voices not only included, but genuinely listened to and actively informing this process.

Supported by Foróige Connect Safely staff Jessica Murphy and Anthony O’Connor.

The energy was electric in Termonfeckin as Foróige young people from across Ireland came together for the first meeting of the newly elected Reference Panel.

For the first time ever, all 64 members were in the room. That says everything about the commitment and drive behind this group.

Across the weekend, young people led the conversation. Big topics, real opinions, and a clear focus on what matters most. From social media and online safety, to inclusion, voting at 16, and the future direction of Foróige.

Sixteen young people were elected to National Council and will now carry this work forward, turning ideas into action.

A huge thanks to the volunteers and staff who made it all happen.

Young people’s voices matter.

The Department of Children, Disability and Equality is developing a new eLearning course to help adults across the public sector understand and respect the rights of children and young people.

To make sure the course reflects real experiences, young people across Ireland are being asked to share their views through a short survey. It only takes about five minutes to complete.

If you are a young person, take part and help shape how adults understand and support children and young people’s rights.

Five young people from Muintir Bháire Foróige Club in West Cork took on a challenge for RTÉ’s Prime Time… a full week without social media.

No Instagram. No TikTok. No Snapchat. No YouTube.

Instead, they kept video diaries, sharing what it was like to switch off, what they noticed about their sleep, mood and school, and how they spent their time when the scroll stopped.

The result? A really honest, thoughtful and sometimes funny look at what happens when young people step away from social media for a week.

It wasn’t just another image in the group chat.

It was his sister.

When something is shared online, it doesn’t stay contained. It reaches people you know. People you care about.

This isn’t just about one message. It’s about real lives and real consequences.

Created by Foróige young people in Blanchardstown, this video highlights how forwarding content can hurt others and carry serious legal weight.

He thought it was just one message. Just between friends.

But once it’s forwarded, it’s out of his control.

Sharing someone’s intimate image isn’t harmless. It carries real emotional and legal consequences.

Think before you send. Think before you share. 📱

💫 We’re still taking in everything that unfolded during Oíche na hÓige / Youth Night 2025. Young people showcased their Foróige spaces and all the music, colour, creativity and connection that happens there week after week, inviting their communities in to experience it with them.

Across the country, there were silent discos, baking expos, podcast demos, Lego builds, art corners, future-dream boards, gaming leagues and drumming workshops, to name but a few. Every club and project put their own stamp on the night, showing the power of youth work when young people lead the way.

Here are a few more moments that capture the heart of the night and the spirit that lit up communities across Ireland.
