Active Retirement Ireland

Active Retirement Ireland Active Retirement Ireland is the country's largest membership organisation for retired and semi-retired people of any age.

This page is managed by the Active Retirement Ireland national organisation for the sharing of news, information, services and supports relevant to our members. It is not a space to raise internal local ARA complaints or grievances. Any comments of this nature will be removed. Active Retirement Ireland has a formal complaints process and we advise any ARA or member who wishes to make a complaint to follow this process.

❤️ 31,196 signatures. Thank you! Together, you have helped us achieve something truly remarkable.

Our petition calling for fair, state-supported access to the shingles vaccine for adults aged 65+ has now closed with 31,196 signatures.

To every person who signed, shared the petition with family and friends, posted it on social media, encouraged others to get involved, or supported the campaign in any way – thank you. Your support has helped send a powerful message that older people deserve fair access to preventative healthcare.

This is not the end of the campaign.

In September, we will present the petition to Government as part of our call for a publicly funded shingles vaccination programme for adults aged 65+.

We look forward to continuing to work with our members, supporters, healthcare professionals and policymakers to ensure that cost is no longer a barrier to protecting older people from this preventable disease.

31,196 voices and one clear message: it's time for fair access to the shingles vaccine.

Thank you for standing with us 💙

🦢 Portlaoise ARA members enjoyed a fabulous four-night trip to the Riverside Park Hotel in Enniscorthy in mid-June, travelling with McGinleys and stopping at the Arboretum in Carlow enroute for lunch. Over their few days’ break the group visited the Kennedy Homestead in Dunganstown and the Dunbrody Famine Ship experience in New Ross, had a splendid day out at Johnstown Castle Estate, Museum and Gardens and of course made time for some retail therapy in Waterford City. The group thoroughly enjoyed their stay at the Riverside Park Hotel with all agreeing it was an ideal venue for food, entertainment and relaxation 🙌

⛵️A group of Active Retirement Ireland members from Slieverue & District ARA, Portlaw ARA and a number of Waterford City ARAs took to the water this week aboard the Barrow Princess, leaving Adelphi Quay in Waterford and cruising downriver, passing King's Channel and Waterford Castle on the way to where the Three Sisters rivers — the Nore, Suir and Barrow — meet at Cheekpoint. A beautiful afternoon and a lovely opportunity to meet members of other local ARAs ☀️

We've already reached an incredible 26,000+ signatures – now let's make one final push to 30,000 before the petition closes.

Every signature will strengthen our message when we present the petition to government ahead of Budget 2027.

Our campaign is calling for fair, state-supported access to the shingles vaccine for adults aged 65+, so that older people are not prevented from accessing this important vaccine because of cost.

Please help us get over the line by:
✅ Signing the petition if you haven't already
✅ Sharing it on your page
✅ Posting it in your WhatsApp groups
✅ Asking your family, friends and neighbours to sign

Together, we've built an incredible campaign. Let's finish strong and show government just how much support there is for this issue.

Thank you for your continued support. Every signature counts.
