Our Cubs and Scouts had an awesome camp under the harvest moon at York Scout Activity Centre this weekend. They took part in air rifling, orienteering, whittling, sumo suits, backwoods cooking, campfire songs, a night hike and much more besides!

We need your help!

Riccall Scouts is booming, with both our Cubs and Scouts sections now full and Beavers not far behind. We’d love to offer more local young people the chance to get involved, but can’t unless we find more volunteers willing to help.

We’d love to hear from anyone who could help with the following:
* Beavers section (age 6-8, Wednesdays 6-7pm)
* Cubs section (age 8-10.5, Thursdays 6-7:30pm)
* Volunteer recruitment
* Communications
* Looking after our equipment
* Any other ways you can help that we haven’t thought of!

No special skills or experience are needed, as training is provided where necessary. It’s a great way to learn new skills, meet new people and have a lot of fun! And you’ll be helping our local young people learn and find a .

Do you have a 6 or 7 year old who loves trying and learning new things, having fun and going on adventures, helping others and making a difference? Beaver Scouts could be right up their street!

Riccall Beavers meet on Wednesday evenings from 6-7pm at the Regen Centre during school terms (our first week back will be the 9th September). We are expecting to have a small number of spaces available for new recruits.

We’re especially keen to hear from girls as they are currently underrepresented in the section, but we’re open to young people of any gender. We’re also very keen to hear from parents/carers/other adults who would like to join in the adventure themselves by becoming part of our amazing volunteer team.

Two teams of Riccall Scouts took on a 25km expedition along the River Ouse this weekend, having planned their own routes, menus and equipment lists.

They successfully navigated themselves from Barlby to Selby then on to Tamarak Scout Campsite where they pitched their tents, cooked their teas then had a well-earned rest around the campfire before bed. The next day they packed up and made their return journey.

A fantastic achievement for a group of 11-13 year olds, most of whom had never done anything similar before. Well done to them all!

Thanks to the young people, parents and volunteers who came on parade today - you did yourselves and the Group proud!
