This month is Black History Month, and this years theme is HONOURING BLACK BRITAIN 2026.

Black history is an integral part of Britain’s national story. While October provides a focused opportunity for engagement, work is rooted in a year-round commitment to visibility, education and recognition.

September is gynaecological (gynae) cancer awareness month. These are cancers that start in the female reproductive system which helps to make babies. These cancer types can affect women, some transgender men and non-binary people who were assigned female at birth.

The treatment you need depends on where the cancer started. Knowing the type of cancer means you can get the correct information about it.

If you are worried or have any concerns about this, please speak to your doctor.

One type of gynaecological cancer is ovarian cancer. Here is an easy read guide on how to spot ovarian cancerhttps://www.cancerresearchuk.org/sites/default/files/ovarian_easy_read_leaflet.pdf

We had a goal for this year's Learning Disability week 2026.

That goal was to offer a wide range of activities, information sharing, have fun and for as many people in the Wakefield district to come along to our two separate events to connect with local services.

We certainly did that with 50 visitors at our Havercroft and Ryhill Community Learning Centre event & 150 visitors at our Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation event at Thornes Park.

We certainly achieved our goal with support from our colleagues.

Next year will be even bigger & better πŸ‘€
