Swindon & District Samaritans About Samaritans

We cannot offer support on our page. Every day, Samaritans volunteers answer around 10,000 calls for help.

In prisons, schools, hospitals and on the rail network, Samaritans are working with people who are going through a difficult time and training others to do the same. Samaritans is here for anyone who needs to talk, and we’d like our page to be a supportive, kind, and positive space. To ensure this happens, we have a couple of guidelines in place:

💚 Be Kind

Be sympathetic to, and mindful of, ot

her people’s feelings. Be tolerant and respectful of other people’s beliefs and please think before you comment anything that might upset someone - we're all here to support each other. If you do see any comments which you think are against this in any way, please report them.

❌ Offensive language/behaviour

We won't tolerate disrespectful, offensive, or abusive comments, and they will be removed from the page along with the author of the comment.

Have you ever wondered what happens when you call Samaritans?

There's no pressure. No judgement. No telling you what to do.

We're simply here to listen - giving you time and space to talk through whatever is running through your mind.

You don't need to be at crisis point. You don't have to have the 'right' words. You just need to make the call - we're here every hour, of every day of the year.

📞Samaritans 116123 - free to call💚

Whatever you're facing, you don't need to face it by yourself. Please make that call 💚

Heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in helping to make our summer party such a fabulous and happy time for our volunteers and supporters.

To the Zurich Insurance Corporate Governance Team for picking up our Summer Challenge and pulling out all the stops, enabling us to enjoy much appreciated time together.

To Prospect Hospice Catering Team for their wonderful spread - if you get the opportunity please visit the Heart of the Hospice cafe - you won't be disappointed!

To Swindon Heritage Preservation for helping us make a last minute switch indoors to the Central Community Centre in Emlyn Square so rain didn't stop play!

A real community event and support - how fortunate are we to be part of such a great branch and wider team who help make a real difference - thank you 💚

EVIE'S BOOK SWAP

Some stories are difficult to tell, but they deserve to be heard.

When Evie was just 11, there were signs she was struggling. Although help was sought, during those dark moments Samaritans were there for Evie and her mum, Leanne, will always be proud that Evie found the courage to reach out and talk to Samaritans.

Evie loved books from an early age. Bedtime stories sparked a lifelong passion for reading, and books became both a source of comfort and an escape during difficult times.

Evie sadly took her own life in 2020.

Determined to honour her daughter, Leanne created the first Evie's Book Swap during lockdown, opening it in August 2021. With support from Calne Men's Shed, it has grown into a network of 16 community book swaps across Calne, Derry Hill and Compton Bassett, with more planned.

Each swap offers books, Samaritans cards and bookmarks, small treats, and a message book filled with kindness. Evie's legacy lives on through compassion, community and a reminder that no one has to face life's challenges alone. Samaritans are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, for anyone struggling to cope 💚
