LGBTQ+ bookshop and community space coming to Swansea, Wales, UK

Nofela is the LGBTQ+ Bookshop & Community Space coming to Swansea later in 2026. We’re dreaming up a cosy queer-centred, not-for-profit, bookshop, café and community space. Nofela will be a space for books, brews and community care. Initially, this would be on the basis of a twelve month pop-up, with a view to creating a permanent space . Nofela is a Community Interest Company (CIC), which means any profits are ploughed back into the business or the LGBTQ+ community itself. Founded by queer, neurodiverse women, we are a proudly Welsh-based and community-focused team.

In Conversation: Emily Garside & Mikey Bell

"From grappling with labels, trying (and not fitting) into boxes, to the question: What even is 'Q***r Welsh writing'?"

Shwmae pawb!

Q***rTawe and Nofela CIC warmly invite you to Urban HQ for a brilliant, free evening in conversation with authors Dr Emily Garside and Mikey Bell.

Drawing on their diverse experiences across theatre and non-fiction (Emily) and memoir and food writing (Mikey), our guests will discuss the intricacies of writing Q***r Welsh books, finding voice outside traditional molds, and the bigger questions surrounding writing q***rly. Following the discussion, we will open up the floor for an audience Q&A and book signings.

There will also be plenty of time before and after the event for socialising, catching up, and enjoying food and drinks in a friendly, relaxed setting.

Shwmae Pawb!

We are so excited to share with you that we have now secured enough funding to open our own shop and have provisionally agreed a lease on 32 High Street, Swansea. We will be next-door-but-one to Volcano and opposite Down By Here.

The unit is fully accessible and has a lovely disabled bathroom, which was very important to those who completed our survey.

We would love to be open before Christmas..... Watch this space.

Thank you all for your continued support!

Diolch yn fawr,

Karen, Mair, Quebei & Sarah
