Home-Start Stroud and Gloucester is a voluntary organisation supporting families with at least one child under five years of age. Contact us on 01453 297470.

Home-Start is a voluntary organisation committed to promoting the welfare of families with at least one child under five years of age. Volunteers offer regular support, friendship and practical help to families under stress in their own homes helping to prevent family crisis and breakdown.

Parenting doesn’t come with a manual and it can be lonely and challenging at times.

That’s why our Home Volunteers exist. Every week, for two hours, a friendly face shows up at our family’s homes.

Whether they need a listening ear, some help feeling confident to get out and about with their baby or simply just the space to breathe and enjoy a cuppa, this consistent support can often mean more than we realise.

In the summer, our Mothers in Mind group produced some artwork, which featured in a Bringing Nature Home outdoor gallery. This formed part of the Stonehouse in Bloom entry to Britain in Bloom 2026 - which they only went and won!

Stonehouse in Bloom want to say a big thank you for all the mums who were involved in meeting the judges and producing this amazing artwork.

Every parent knows that sometimes fixing something means taking it apart, having a look, and asking:
“Right… what’s actually going on here?”

That’s a pretty useful skill for a trustee too.

You don’t need to know all the answers. In fact, asking the right questions can be one of the most valuable things you bring to the table.

Our trustees help us look at challenges from different angles, ask questions, share ideas and make thoughtful decisions about the future of Home-Start Stroud and Gloucester.

So, if you’re someone who likes to understand how things work, spot what could be improved and help find solutions…

Did you know? We still have spaces available on our Best-Start groups for parents with a child up to six months old.

Groups are taking place at the following locations:

Kingfisher Church, Tredworth, Gloucester Wednesdays 11th Nov - 9th Dec 1.30 - 3pm

Randwick Scout Hut, Cashes Green, Stroud Thursdays 12th Nov - 10th Dec 11am - 12.30pm

Come along and meet other parents at our friendly, non-judgemental peer support group, get the most up-to-date advice, reassurance and support and enjoy a cuppa and a biscuit with others who just ‘get it’.

You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to be a trustee.

You don’t need years of board experience. You don’t need to know everything about governance. And you definitely don’t need to have all the answers.

What we’re looking for is people with different experiences, perspectives and ideas who want to help shape the future of Home-Start Stroud and Gloucester.

Trustees help us ask the right questions, think strategically, bring fresh ideas and make decisions that support local families and young children.

Maybe you’re a parent. Maybe you’re a business owner. Maybe you’ve spent your career in a completely different sector. Maybe you’ve never considered becoming a trustee before.

There’s no single type of person who makes a great trustee.
You just need to be curious, committed and willing to bring your perspective to the table.

Parents know that sometimes the best way forward is to jump right in. The puddles. The muddy shoes. The big laughs. The small moments that matter.

But parents also have something valuable to bring to the boardroom.

We’re looking for new trustees to join Home-Start Stroud and Gloucester, and we’d love to hear from parents who want to use their experiences, ideas and perspective to help shape the future of support for local families.

You don’t need previous trustee experience. You don’t need to have sat around a boardroom table before. You just need to care about families, be willing to ask questions, listen, share your perspective and help us make good decisions.

Because parents have a voice. And parents deserve a seat at the table.

We have some good news for families with a baby aged up to six months. Our Best-Start groups will be running again in November!

We will be running two five-week groups at the following locations:

• Kingfisher Church, Tredworth in Gloucester. This will take place on Wednesdays from 11th November until 9th December. The group will run from 1.30pm until 3pm.

• Randwick Scout Hut, Cashes Green in Stroud. This will take place on Thursdays from 12th November until 10th December. The group will run from 11am - 12.30pm

Last year we supported 455 families through our groups and home visiting service. Our 66 active volunteers supported 129 families in their own homes, with each family receiving 2-3 hours of help and advice a week.

This year, we want to do more. And we cannot do that without your support. Could you donate or fundraise for us?
