We offer free 1:1 confidential support with reading to adults who live in the Stockport area.

There are over 11,000 people locally who struggle with tasks that most of us take for granted such as reading an official letter. The Stockport group came together with enthusiasm during the pandemic and was determined that our mission to bring the joy of reading to others would be continued despite practical difficulties. Our Reading Coaches have been trained online and work with their Readers in covid safe environments in the community such as libraries. We are always on the lookout for new members so if you like the sound of what we do and would like to become involved or know of anyone who might like help with their reading please contact Marie Joyce the Team Leader for Stockport.

We're so proud of our Ambassador Peter who has come such a long way in the past 5 years. He's not only learnt to read, he has appeared in this Guardian article, the BBC2 documentary 'The Book That Changed My Life' on October 14th which is now on BBC iPlayer, ' and met the Queen! He's a shining example of what can be achieved with determination and the support of Read Easy. Well done, Peter! 😀📖📚

On tonight, October 14th and afterwards on BBC IPlayer. We'll be watching!

One of our Reader Ambassadors will share his reading journey in a new BBC documentary, airing today on BBC2 and iPlayer. Peter learned to read with Read Easy Merseyside.

Marking the National Year of Reading 2026, the documentary sees Her Majesty Queen Camilla explore the transformative power of reading, meeting four remarkable people, including Peter, whose lives have been changed by books at moments when they most needed them. The film explores how reading can lift us, open our minds and, sometimes, change the course of a life.

The film also explores the growing scientific evidence that demonstrates how reading can improve health and wellbeing.

We want to thank Peter for his willingness to share his story so publicly and express our gratitude to everyone involved in the production for their commitment to telling a story about an adult learning to read.

The Book That Changed My Life is now available on iPlayer and will be shown on BBC 2 at 9pm Wednesday 14th October.

It's Dyslexia Awareness Week. Our reading coaches in Stockport can help adults like Stephie learn to read! 📚 📖 ,

According to ONS data, around 2.4 million adults across England alone either cannot read or struggle significantly with reading.

This Dyslexia Awareness Week we’re sharing Stephie Bradshaw’s story.

Stephie has dyslexia and only learned to read fluently when she was 33, supported by charity Read Easy UK.

Now she shares her story to help other adults who struggle to read feel less alone.

Let’s remove the stigma around seeking support to read as an adult.

Imagine a day without reading.....

Maybe you're going out this weekend. Meeting friends. Figuring out how to get there, timings of buses or trains. What route to take and where to park.

Getting out and about is more complicated if you struggle to read.

You can help us reach more adults who want to learn to read. Visit our website to learn more.
