End of Treatment Bells #celebratingmilestones We place bells into hospitals and treatment centres for children and adults with chronic illnesses to ring during or after their treatment.

Registered Charity Number: 1195482 We first came across End of Treatment bells whilst in Oklahoma with our daughter, Emma, who was 8 at the time and there to have Proton Beam Therapy following a diagnosis of rhabdomyosarcoma (a soft tissue cancer). Everybody would stop to watch as the next ringer took centre stage and it was amazing to see and to be a part of that celebration. We approached our ho

spital in Manchester to ask if we could place one there when Emma finished chemo and with the help of our friend Joe, we had one made and presented it to them on April 9th 2014, the day Emma finished her last chemotherapy session. The bell was a huge hit and other families embraced it the way we had - we were thrilled! We had another made for the day case unit as we knew that not all children finish treatment on the ward. We joined forces with Beads of Courage UK and Ireland and have since rolled out a NICU bell for babies on the Beads Program and a Milestone Bell which was created with Jane Brady, a secondary breast cancer patient who wanted everyone to feel they could ring a bell regardless of treatment stage. The bell is a symbol of hope for many patients and families who find themselves on this horrendous journey. We wanted to offer each patient the opportunity to celebrate milestones along the way, be that the end of treatment or just because they feel like it.

When we started donating bells, we never ever imagined we would get to a point where we were announcing our 500th bell!

This feels pretty monumental to us and we are so proud of what our little charity has achieved.

The 500th bell and 82nd Milestone Plaque have gone to the Lilac Centre at St Helen’s Hospital!

We’d like to thank every single person who has supported us in any way. We genuinely couldn’t do what we do without your support.

Twelve years ago when we placed our first bell at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, we had absolutely no idea where that was going to lead us.

If anyone had told us that we’d be placing bells all over the world, we’d have laughed.

This week, we sent out bell 499. Next week, we’ll be sending out bell number 500. And that’s a pretty phenomenal milestone for us.

Thank you to every single person who has ever donated, sponsored a bell or raised funds for us. Every single penny goes into the charity. We have always run the charity as volunteers. As a registered charity, we have never charged a hospital in the UK for a bell.
