The next free Growing Older with Learning Disabilities webinar will be looking at the Social Care Institute for Excellence's Get Me To Hospital guidance.

People with learning disabilities and other cognitive impairments can die from treatable conditions when professionals and families are unsure how to use the Mental Capacity Act to get them to hospital. This guidance supports families and practitioners when a person lacks capacity to decide about going to hospital for physical health treatment, but doesn't want to go.

🚨 BREAKING NEWS 🚨

Carers will no longer lose their entire Carer's Allowance award if they go over the weekly earnings limit 📣👏

Under the planned change, payments would reduce by £1 for every £1 earned above the limit, replacing the current rule that can leave carers losing their whole award for earning just 1p too much.

Contact, alongside our parent carer campaigners, have long called for this change to help families balance paid work with caring.

𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦?

This Essex County Council service provides early intervention and preventative support for adults aged 18-65 across Essex (excluding Southend and Thurrock).

They can support people who are experiencing:
✅ Low mood, anxiety, stress or depression
✅ Autism, ADHD and other neurodivergent conditions
✅ Mild learning disabilities
✅ Challenges with confidence, motivation, relationships or community connections

The team also supports unpaid carers who may be looking for advice, resources or emotional support.

Support is personalised and can include help with emotional wellbeing, accessing local groups, physical health, employment, training, finances and more.

We were very honoured to be part of Highlands Methodist Church celebrations and opening of new community space on Sunday. Well done to Robert Norton for campaigning with all his lovely supporters for a new bench, well done to all the gardeners who have made the garden look so pretty, well done to the Deputy Mayoress Anne Jones, Cllr Cheryl Nevin, Cllr Jo Councillor Jo Mcpherson. Big thanks to W Thorpe and Sons Funeral Directors for their generous gift to the community.
