🚫 MYTH: People experiencing homelessness just need somewhere to sleep.

βœ… FACT: A bed for the night is important, but homelessness affects so much more than housing.

Many people also need support with:

πŸ’™ Mental health and wellbeing
πŸ’™ Physical health and access to healthcare
πŸ’™ Employment and training opportunities
πŸ’™ Benefits and finances
πŸ’™ Building confidence and independence

At HARP, we know that lasting change takes more than a roof over someone's head. That's why we provide holistic support, helping people rebuild their wellbeing, regain stability, and work towards a brighter future.

This World Wellbeing Week, we're challenging common misconceptions and highlighting the realities of homelessness.

Share your thoughts in the comments below and help us raise awareness by challenging the myths that surround homelessness. πŸ‘‡

β˜€οΈ As temperatures remain exceptionally high across South Essex, we need our community's help.

For people sleeping rough, there may be no shade, no access to drinking water and nowhere safe to escape the heat.

At HARP, our outreach teams are continuing to support people throughout the heatwave, helping them access safety, practical support and a way forward. But we can't be everywhere.

If you see someone sleeping rough today, please don't walk past.

πŸ’™ Offer a bottle of water if you can
πŸ’™ Check if they're okay
πŸ’™ Report their location to StreetLink so our outreach team can find them

πŸ“± Make a StreetLink referral: https://bit.ly/street-link-start

If someone appears seriously unwell, becomes confused, collapses or is unconscious, call 999 immediately.

No one should have to face these extreme temperatures alone.

Thank you to everyone who continues to look out for one another. Together, we can help keep people safe.

πŸ‘€ What should you do if you see someone sleeping rough?

Many people want to help but aren't sure where to start.

πŸ“± One of the most effective things you can do is send an alert through StreetLink

https://bit.ly/street-link-start

This helps our local outreach teams to locate homeless individuals and connect them with support services.

You don't need to have all the answers. Sometimes, helping someone access the right support is the most important first step.

πŸ’¬ Have you heard of StreetLink before? Let us know in the comments.

β˜€οΈ As the weather gets warmer, let's look out for one another.

An Amber Extreme Heat Warning has been issued for Monday and Tuesday, with temperatures expected to reach 35Β°C in some areas in the UK.

At HARP, we know that homelessness doesn't pause because of the weather. Every person has a story, and everyone deserves to feel safe and supported.

If you're out over the next few days and see someone sleeping rough, a simple act of kindness can go a long way. Offering a bottle of water, stopping for a conversation, or letting our teams know where someone may need help can make a real difference.

We continue to support people throughout the heat, helping them access safety, practical support and somewhere they can begin to move forward.

If you're worried about someone sleeping rough, please make a StreetLink report so that our teams can be with them as soon as possible.

Thank you to everyone in our community who looks out for one another. Together, we can make sure no one faces these extreme temperatures alone. πŸ’™

πŸ‘΄πŸ‘¨ Today we're celebrating dads, grandads, stepdads and all the father figures who offer support, guidance and kindness to the people around them.

We also know that Father's Day means something different to everyone. For some it's a day of celebration, while for others it may bring reflection, remembrance or mixed emotions.

At HARP, we understand that everyone's story is unique. Family relationships can be a source of strength, but they can also be something people are rebuilding, missing or remembering.

Whatever today looks like for you, we hope you can find a moment of connection.

πŸ’š Send a message.

πŸ“ž Make a phone call.

β˜• Share a cuppa with someone you care about.

🀝 Check in on someone who might be feeling alone.

Sometimes the smallest act of kindness can make the biggest difference.

From all of us at HARP, we wish you a peaceful Father's Day. ❀️

πŸ³β€πŸŸ§β€β¬›β€πŸŸ§ Today is World Refugee Day.

It's a day to recognise the courage and resilience of people who have been forced to flee their homes because of conflict, persecution or violence.

Everyone deserves the security of a safe place to live and the opportunity to rebuild their life with dignity and hope.

At HARP, we see every day how important a stable home can be. While the experiences of refugees and people facing homelessness are different, both remind us of the importance of compassion, community and ensuring that everyone has somewhere they can feel safe. ❀️

🧺 πŸ‘’ Did you know that many of the clothes donated to HARP are given a new lease of life by our talented HARPMade team?

πŸ‘— πŸ‘• Our creative team carefully selects items that can’t be sold in our shops and then transform them into something special.

If you have unwanted clothing in good condition, your donation can make a huge difference β€” helping us support people experiencing homelessness while reducing waste and promoting sustainability.

🩺 This Men's Health Week, we're shining a light on the importance of accessible healthcare.

πŸ‘©β€βš•οΈ Nancy, our Healthcare Assistant, supports people experiencing homelessness to overcome barriers to healthcare. Whether it's helping someone register with a GP, access prescriptions, attend appointments, or connect with specialist services, she helps ensure that healthcare is within reach.

β€œIt is vital that we breakdown the barriers and the stigma of homeless people accessing healthcare”.
