Meet Angela, a dedicated volunteer at Family Voice who treasures her role in this thriving community. Angela shared, “I love being part of the Family Voice community! Over the past few months, I've been supporting learners at an English-speaking class, helping to facilitate art classes, and supporting writing funding applications. I wanted to volunteer to connect with women who live in my area and gain more experience working with women from around the world who have made Sheffield their home. Throughout my career, I've worked on projects engaging community groups in arts projects, but I've never had the opportunity to be part of such a unique organisation that has a direct impact on people's lives and wellbeing. I've learnt a lot about ways to connect and communicate, both through spoken language and in non-verbal ways too. Sitting in on Kate's language classes has inspired me to do more to help people learn, build confidence, and feel empowered to be active members of our community.

The women who attend classes at Family Voice are incredibly welcoming; so many have been generous in sharing stories, recipes, and general life wisdom! We have so much to learn from each other, and I hope to continue working with Family Voice for a long time to come. Obviously, regular opportunities for lunches provided by Ammi's Kitchen are a massive bonus too!"

Angela's testimonial underscores the joy and fulfilment that come from being part of such a vibrant community. Let’s embrace the spirit of giving and join hands to make a difference!

Meet Mark, another passionate volunteer at Family Voice who cherishes the opportunity to connect with diverse individuals and learn about their lives. Mark expressed, “Volunteering with Family Voice brings me in touch with lots of different people, and I learn about other people’s lives, which is a reward in itself. I have always valued a sense of community, and volunteering is one way of giving expression to that value, and of helping to build a feeling of community.”
Mark's enthusiasm highlights the joy and fulfilment that come from being part of such a vibrant community. Let’s embrace the spirit of giving and join hands to make a difference!

Meet Ali, a dedicated member of Family Voice who has found a true sense of belonging and appreciation within the community. Ali shared, “I love being a part of Family Voice. And I do feel very much a part of it. From the first session I ran there, I felt valued and appreciated and that my skills were recognised. That had quite an impact as it’s not something I’ve experienced in many other places. The group of women who come to the Wednesday Art Group share a lovely sisterhood that welcomes new people in and offers safety and friendship. We have fun, we support each other and I feel like one of the group, not the person in charge. We carry it together.”

Ali's testimony is a testament to the nurturing environment and the bonds formed at Family Voice. Let’s celebrate the spirit of community and support that makes such experiences possible!

Meet Maria, who volunteers with Family Voice to support adults’ language skills holistically. She shared, “I have enjoyed supporting art therapists’ workshops, role-play with the Workplace Wellbeing course, vocational support with Food Hygiene courses, and helping with CVs on the Employment course. I have really enjoyed getting to know the many different women that attend Family Voice. It is a safe place to learn, share experiences, ask for help—and often laugh! We have also celebrated many achievements along the way.”

Maria’s journey highlights the incredible impact of volunteers. Let’s celebrate the spirit of volunteerism together!

Discover how idioms change around the world! 🌍
In our English Conversation Class on Monday, learners said they wanted to learn idioms.

We found that the idiom "killing two birds with one stone" is also used in different countries in different ways! So in Tamil, they say: hitting two mangoes with one stone. In Tigrinya, they say: killing two birds with one catapult! In Hindi, they say: getting two hits with one arrow 🏹

🏆 WE WON!!! 🏆

Last night, Family Voice took home the Sheffield Community Impact Award at South Yorkshire Community Foundation's fantastic 40th anniversary celebration — chosen from hundreds of grassroots organisations from across the city.

Family Voice and Ammi's Kitchen want to thank McPhillips Hypnotherapy for her wonderful support during these hard times for the voluntary sector.

She comes to us every term to support us each to work out our strategies for coping with the demands of the work we all do. She brings a lovely calm with her and gently creates a safe space.

It's an incredibly valuable session for everyone on an individual level, but also as a team. Jane is simply extraordinary in how she leads the sessions; she listens deeply with quiet integrity.

Her work is invaluable and makes our team work more sustainable.

Wildlife Garden

The Common Ground (Abbeydale) Community Centre has funded the creation of a new wildlife-friendly garden, designed to provide a warm and uplifting welcome to the venue.

Crafted by Nether Edge and Sharrow Sustainable Transformation (NESST), this garden aims to supply nectar for pollinators, berries and seeds for wintering birds, and plant stems for insects to shelter in during colder months. Our hope is that it will offer beauty throughout the entire year.

While the garden will take some time to fully establish, it has been lovingly completed by dedicated volunteers.

We hope you enjoy it!
