After taking a wrong turn on their descent from Ingleborough, three walkers found themselves heading towards Clapham instead of Horton-in-Ribblesdale.

Cold but uninjured, they did exactly the right thing by stopping in a safe location and calling for help. Using PhoneFind, our Duty Controller was able to locate and track the group, who were equipped with head torches and able to continue safely under guidance.

CRO team members met the party at Trow Gill and returned them to their vehicles before transporting them back to Horton.

A great example of why carrying a head torch, keeping a charged phone, and calling for help early can make all the difference.

We would like to thank the trio for their gratitude, and generous donation they made to the team. We don’t expect every casualty to make a donation but, as a volunteer run charity, they really do mean a lot and help us remain ready for the next call.

Incident 69/2026 - 27/10/26 - 14:19

Due to a road closure affecting access, Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) requested assistance gaining access to a local person having a medical issue at Foxup. The call initially went to Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association (UFWRA) as it was within their area of operation. However, a road closure meant that it would be faster for CRO to attend, so UWFRA contacted us and handed the incident over. CRO1 was despatched with a small team on board, and CRO3 followed up to provide additional support, and if necessary, be used to transport the casualty. CRO1 attended the casualty location where a team Remote Rescue Medical Technician (RRMT) provided initial casualty care whilst CRO1 left the scene to provide transportation for the YAS DCA crew who were currently impeded by a weak bridge undergoing remedial construction works. Fortunately, a member of the construction crew advised that the bridge was safe for the DCA to cross so both DCA and CRO1 headed to the casualty site. After further assessment by the YAS paramedics, additional Air Ambulance support was requested. YAAS Helimed 98 was deployed and was on scene some 20 minutes later. After further treatment, the casualty was then transferred to the YAS DCA and conveyed to hospital by road.

Today is Mountain Rescue Awareness Day and we’re celebrating the volunteers who leave warm sofas, family dinners and occasionally half-finished brews to help people when they need it most.

Behind every rescue is a team of dedicated volunteers giving up their time, sharing their skills and looking out for others.

We’re incredibly proud to stand alongside mountain rescue teams across the UK and Ireland. Thanks to everyone who answers the call. And to those who keep the tea flowing afterwards. You know who you are.

Here’s to teamwork, friendship, muddy boots, and the occasional rescue that starts with “This should be straightforward…”

Incident 68/2026 - 12/10/26 - 11:00

The team was called by North Yorkshire Police to a walker (M 69) above Malham Cove with a foot injury after falling on a rock and unable to walk. After an assessment by team members, he was carried by stretcher to the team vehicles and transported back to his accommodation near to Malham.
