Here's a reminder that the next Circle meeting is this Wednesday 18th March. A week earlier than normal because of events taking place next week. It's a pleasure to have Mike Taylor presenting Eddie Bobrowski's 'Photographic Life with a Camera'. This show promises to have something for everyone's taste:

Starting with early steam loco images around the Saltaire area then to North Eastern Steam in 1966/67, the end of steam on BR in the North West of England, and looking for steam in the industrial landscape of the UK. The presentation then moves on to the ‘Muck’ trains in Northern Ireland, steam abroad and on the SNCF. Not left out is the early preservation era and then main line steam excursions running on British Railways again right up to the present day.

Usual arrangements:
Settle Victoria Hall, 10.00 for 10.30 start, £6 admission that includes refreshments and the return of Jannie's rock buns.
Hope to see you there.

Here's your reminder about the next Giggleswick Railway Circle meeting on Wednesday 25th February 2026.

I am pleased to secure Glenn Clarkson for a presentation this month. The show is titled Treasures of a Trainspotter III and features photographs taken in the latter years of BR steam and of early preservation activity. Mainly, but not exclusively, shot in the North West.
Glenn comes recommended so I am sure we will be in for a good show.

Usual arrangements, refreshments available from 10.00 (included in the admission charge of £6) for a presentation start of 10.30.
Settle Victoria Hall, Kirkgate, Settle BD24 9DZ.
Hope to see you there.

Greetings and a Very Happy New Year.

Our next meeting is a welcome return to Martin Bairstow who will present The 'Little' North Western Railway. This will be an illustrated history of lines roughly covering an area from Skipton in the East, to Lancaster and Morecambe in the West, and the line through Ingleton. Martin's talks are well researched, matched with fascinating archive images.

You're welcome from 10.00 for a chat and refreshments, including Jannie's excellent rock buns, ready for a 10.30 start.
Wednesday 28th January at Settle Victoria Hall, Kirkgate, Settle; admission remains at £6.

Hope to see you there.

Just to remind you that tomorrow, Wednesday 17th December, is the last Railway Circle meeting of 2025.

Richard Hinchcliffe is coming along to present 'Flying Scotsman in America'. It will be a fascinating talk. Richard has one copy left of a book that accompanies the talk so grab it quick if you want a last minute Christmas pressie. I'm sure he will take orders if anyone is interested.

Usual arrangements, Settle Victoria Hall, 10.30 am, refreshments available from 10.00. As it's Christmas I shall be bringing along mince pies, and a few of Jannie's rock buns if mince pies don't tickle your taste buds.

Hope to see you there.

Just to remind you the next Railway Circle Meeting is this Wednesday, 22nd October starting 10.30 at Settle Victoria Hall. Refreshments, biscuits and Jannie's delicious rock buns, available from 10.00, all for £6.
Mike Taylor will be presenting 'Things Ain't What They Used To Be'. I think this may be a bit of a 'Then and Now' show. Mike is being economical on divulging the content, so come along to enjoy, there may be some surprises.

Doncaster Railway Museum aka Treasures in the Tower
Rob Daniels

This is probably Doncaster's Best kept secret. Rob will tell the story of how one of the largest and most significant collections of railway memorabilia in the country (if not the world) came to be accumulated in a redundant water tower at a school in Doncaster. Previously, the artefacts could only seen by a few by invitation, and those who could make the arduous climb into the tower. Now, a selection of the collection is now accessible to all in Doncaster's new Danum Gallery and Library and Museum.

Hope to see you there.

Hi,

Resulting from an error on my part, Jane Ellis is unable to present Round the UK by Railway Posters on Wednesday 19th November. I'm pleased to report her talk has been rescheduled for next year. I am also pleased to have secured Paul Chancellor, from Colour-Rail, to present instead on that day. This will be a final opportunity to see Paul in person. He is still continuing with Colour-Rail, but stepping back from travelling and giving shows around the country.

New programme is attached.

Apologies for any inconvenience.
