Our fundraising manager heard traitors is a really good way to raise money for charity and now she won’t take off the wig!

With nearly £50k in the prize pot already this season, we have been wondering what that amount of money could achieve in the Yorkshire Dales 🤔👇

It could support…

🌳 Getting 3,000 trees planted
🌸 15 community meadows
👏 10 rural apprentices with additional skills training!

Find out how you can get involved and support the people, landscape and wildlife of the Yorkshire Dales here on our website: https://www.ydmt.org/support-the-yorkshire-dales

We have had a lovely morning at Muker, learning all about veteran trees and how they are a great habitat for house nesting birds! 🌳🪶

Thank you to Ros Evan’s, lead veteran tree verifier for the Woodland Trust, and Chris Jones from the RSPB, for sharing their knowledge with us today.

There are still places available on the veteran tree walk in Sedbergh next week, we would love to see you there! 🍃

On the weekend of 11th September, 9 participants from Blackburn, Leeds and Bradford completed the Open Pathways Level 1 Leading Groups in Nature Qualification.

During the residential, the participants learned what resources they need for group visits, the country code, the history of access to the countryside, and did a hazard hunt to learn about risk assessments.

The highlight of the visit was visiting Snaizeholme Red Squirrel Sanctuary, where the red squirrels put on a show for us! We felt like Snow White calling to the animals!

The participants left the weekend feeling more connected to nature and more equipped to bring their own groups to green spaces.

Thank you so much to for facilitating and to for funding the Open Pathways Programme.

The Youth Forum have always loved visiting Malham, and on their trip this September there was a lot of reminiscing over Malham residentials.

On a fantastic slightly autumnal Saturday, we wandered along the boardwalk with Claire Braeburn of the National Trust, looking at willows and other flora and fauna. We were particularly entranced by the frequent evidence of otters!

In the afternoon, we were joined by Phil Bradley, who expertly led us through making our very own willow swifts as part of our Homes for Dales House Birds project.

It may be the only Swifts we will be seeing until next summer!

You can find out more about our Youth Forum and Homes for Dales House Bird projects on our website: https://www.ydmt.org/

Join us for a short, leisurely walk (approx. 3km) exploring the veteran trees of the local landscape. Led by Ancient Tree Inventory lead verifier Ros Evans, we will learn about their value for nature and wildlife.

RSPB advisors Chris and Frank will join us to share more about the importance of veteran trees as nesting and foraging resources for house nesting birds.

The terrain is gentle and suitable for most abilities; however, the route does include stiles, gates, and some uneven ground.
