We are planning a return trip to the Ardéche, France in May. A chance to go caving, canoeing and enjoy French food and drink. One of the many benefits of being in the NPC.

Report of dangerous loose rocks in 2 routes in Notth by North End Pot and Jingling Pot

⚠️⚠️⚠️ A few recently reported hazards to make you aware of in two of our very popular potholes:

In North by North End Pot, we have heard of a very recent collapse on the final pitch (Julian’s Leg Up) while a group was ascending, with an extremely large boulder now undermined and in danger of further collapse.

In Jingling Pot, on the Lateral Cleft route below anchors 17 and 18 on our topo, there is a loose chockstone halfway down in danger of being easily dislodged, bringing other material down.

Both of these were reported by cavers using our reporting tool (cncc.org.uk/caving/report). More information on each can be found on our webpage for each cave. If you are able to provide updates on either situation, please report them.

Great news. The CNCC working for our fellow cavers producing a new rigging tops and replacing anchors so we can explore the vertical systems of Yorkshire.

We've just published new/updated topos for Wizard's Chasm, Dale Head Pot, North End Pot, Marble Steps Pot and Lost John's Cave. Download them on our website.

Exploring underground since 1946

The Northern Pennine Club (NPC) is one of the oldest and largest caving clubs in the UK. We were founded in 1946 and quickly became one of the most prolific clubs active in cave exploration in the north of England and further afield. The NPC have been responsible for many of the great caving discoveries in the Yorkshire Dales. Just some of our major discoveries include Penyghent Pot, Vesper Pot, Stream Passage Pot, Large Pot, Gavel Pot, Hammer Pot, Magnetometer Pot, the Notts II system, as well as many parts of the Ease Gill Caverns system.

Today we remain an extremely active caving club, with sporting trips on an almost weekly basis, and overseas caving holidays at least twice a year. Furthermore, new exploration continues today, both at home and abroad, with many members actively seeking new passages every week.

Although we are mainly a caving club, and this remains our primary focus, the NPC also has many members who venture underground infrequently, but instead form part of our active community of climbers, walkers and cyclists.

The NPC has a large base at Greenclose, just outside of Clapham, that provides a focus for our activities, a store for the club ropes, and accommodation for both members and guests. Weekends at Greenclose are always vibrant, as cavers head off on various adventures, returning with tales to tell in the warmth and welcome of Greenclose.
