The annual Norwegian National Day commeration took place at the Shetland Bus Memorial today. Museum chair Jim Young made the introduction then lLocal councillor Davie Sandison gave a short speech. Wreaths were laid and Bunty Glesnes, daughter of Shetland Bus man Arne "Nipen" Melkevik and Scalloway woman Barbara Christie, laid some flowers in memory of her parents.
As usual a number of visiting Norwegiand were present, including some in national dress.

We were privileged to be part of the invited audience for the premiere of the film 'Hearts Across the Sea' by Claire White and Jonathon Bulter on Wednesday evening.
A public showing of the film will be held at Shetland UHI's Scalloway Campus on Wednesday 20th May from 7pm. This showing will be free but the Museum will accept donations.

Last night invited guests attended a screening of Claire White and Jonathon Bulter's new Shetland Bus documentary film Hearts Across The Sea.

Described as a "beautiful film", one audience member said "you were laughing one minute, and crying the next".

Pictured below are Claire and Jonathon joined by some of the film's local interviewees - Charlie Grant, Janne Glesnes Martin, Jim Young, Lexie Watt, Bill Moore and Tommy Isbister.

The Shetland Bus story is to feature in a new national memorial in England. The National Memorial Arboretum (NMA) in Staffordshire has unveiled its plan to install a memorial in its Allied Special Forces Memorial Grove.

Former SAS operative to commemorate Shetland Bus in national memorial garden.

The famous story is also the subject of two upcoming isles-produced films.
