The Viking Community Fund Apprenticeship Support Fund for Small Businesses is now open.

The fund can support small (15 employees or less) Shetland businesses or social enterprises with the costs of taking on an apprentice and is generally used as a contribution towards their wages. As the fund was created to support the VCF Strategic Priority of ‘Encouraging Young People to Remain/Return to Shetland’, the apprentice being employed needs to be between the ages of 16 and 25 when the apprenticeship begins.

The fund closes on the 31st of May 2026.

The Scalloway Community Council have today received a comprehensive response from Shetland Recreational Trust to their letter challenging the planned closure of the Scalloway Swimming Pool. You can access and read the full response here below. We are also led to believe that representatives of SRT will appear on Radio Shetland at 5.30pm this evening.
