CRUK Relay For Life - Shetland The CRUK Relay For Life - Shetland, is a biennial fundraising event, raising funds and awareness for This again signifies the hope that a cure can be found.

Shetland has a great track record of fundraising for many different charities. Cancer Reseach UK is a charity close to the community's heart and through organising a Shetland Relay for Life on a biennial basis, over £1,116,000 has been raised to date. We have now raised over £1 million in just 6 events which is a first throughout the UK. The Relay for Life event involves teams of participants walking through the night, from 8pm to 8am. The aim of the event is to raise money and awareness about Cancer. Teams are formed in advance of the Relay and encouraged to raise money, not only through sponsorship, but by holding their own fundraising events. The Shetland Relay For Life, has developed over the years and become a hugely successful community event. It has expanded to included a Gala afternoon and during the night their will be music, food and other entertainment to keep the walkers going. One of the most poignant parts of the night will be the Survivors lap at the start of the Relay. We are lucky that increasing numbers of people are surviving this disease, and having these people lead off the Relay gives hope that we can achieve Cancer Research UK's vision - "Together, we will beat cancer sooner". Another feature of Relay For Life events is the Candle of Hope Ceremony. The ceremony is there to remember loved ones who had died from Cancer and also celebrate friends and family who have survived the disease. Candle bags are decorated and lit during the ceremony, then kept alight during the night. The next CRUK Relay For Life - Shetland, will take place in 2018. This isn’t a post we wanted to be writing, but unfortunately we’ve noticed that the money raised isn’t matching the value of all the homebakes we put out. We know this is the risk you take when running an honesty box, we were aware of it in June and July too, but with this weekend being the worst so far and leaving us about £100 down 💔 All the proceeds from the cake fridge go to Cancer Research UK and our team have worked so hard to make this happen so we are disappointed to be missing that much money. We’d like to ask anyone that was at the cake fridge on Sunday and paid by QR code please could you check that your payment has gone through, as we know sometimes the signal is not the best.

We really hope this has been an honest mistake, and on the whole the honesty box system has worked really well, so thank you to everyone who has stopped by this weekend. We will be announcing our total raised later this week.

I’ve attached the JustGiving link below and it’s also in our bio. If anyone needs to try paying again or would like to make a donation big or small we’d really appreciate it, the last date for 2026 donations is 30th August.
