Shetland Textile Museum

Shetland Textile Museum Shetland's dedicated textiles museum at the Böd of Gremista. Shetland Textile Museum is a community museum dedicated to Shetland textiles.

WE ARE NOW CLOSED FOR THE WINTER

We reopen in mid April 2025 from 11am - 4pm Tues - Sat, throughout the season until mid October 2025
In addition we will open extra days for Wool Week. Housed in the Böd of Gremista on Lerwick's waterfront, the STM boasts a world renowned collection of historical knitted and woven textiles dating from the 19th century to the present day. In total there are over

a thousand objects and records in the collection, over 700 of which are textile artefacts. Regular demonstrations of spinning and knitting, and a gift shop showcasing products from designer-makers, make the STM a vibrant centre of Shetland's textile culture and heritage. The Böd was once a fishing station house and is most famous as the birthplace of Arthur Anderson, founder of P&O Shipping - and the man who gifted Queen Victoria with stockings of Shetland Fine Lace.
