Pedall - New Forest Inclusive Cycling

Pedall - New Forest Inclusive Cycling PEDALL aims to promote and provide cycling as an inclusive activity in and around the New Forest National Park.

The New Forest is a popular destination for cycling thanks to an abundance of off-road cycling-friendly paths, beautiful scenery and diverse flora and fauna. PEDALL aims to ensure that these benefits are made available to as many people as possible; including those who previously felt like this was not an option. This activity is well-suited for people with a physical or intellectual disability, a

visible or unseen condition or health diagnosis who would benefit from the associated benefits to mental and physical wellbeing that cycling provides. Family members and carers are strongly encouraged to join the sessions and share the experience of cycling in the National Park. Sessions last up to one hour but arrangements can be tailored to meet the specific requirements of each group. Any specific requests will be accommodated wherever possible. Sessions are run by specially trained, experienced staff and volunteers. For more information, or if you would like to book a session, please refer to our frequently asked questions or contact [email protected]

Meet our volunteer Ride Leader: Dave Challis. ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿšด

๐Ÿ’ฌ "I get a great deal of satisfaction from volunteering with PEDALL."

When Dave retired at the end of 2018, he knew he wanted to stay active and do something meaningful, especially with the New Forest right on his doorstep. He was introduced to PEDALL at the New Forest National Park Volunteer Fair in Lyndhurst, and seven years later, he hasn't looked back.

Behind the scenes, Dave makes sure the right bikes are ready and in good working order before each session. Out on the tracks, he leads the group and keeps everyone riding together. It's a role that suits him perfectly - supportive and always focused on the riders.

Dave's passion for supporting others has grown during his time with PEDALL, inspiring him to become a trustee at New Forest Mencap - join us, a charity supporting people with learning disabilities โ€“ a testament to his dedication and compassion.

Outside of his work with PEDALL and Mencap, Dave is a fair-weather motorcyclist and holds a black belt in Shotokai Karate โ€“ a master of his craft. ๐Ÿฅ‹๐Ÿ๏ธ

Thinking about volunteering with PEDALL? Here's Dave's advice: "It's very rewarding to help others less fortunate than yourself โ€“ the effect these rides have can be amazing!" ๐Ÿ’š

300 kilometres. One day. Sunrise to sunset. ๐Ÿšด๐ŸŒ…

Chase the Sun - Cycle The Longest Day North is a coast-to-coast ride from Whitley Bay to Ayr โ€“ over 300 kilometres, from sunrise to sunset, in a single day. It's a true test of endurance, determination, and resilience that pushes even the most experienced cyclists to their limits.

Taking on the challenge are Friends of PEDALL trustee Darren Hutchins and PEDALL operations director Gareth Jones. Gareth will then spend the following six days cycling south to Birmingham, covering a further 600km.

Both are riding to raise funds for PEDALL's annual fundraiser, Pass the PEDALL, working towards our 10,000 km cycling target. By donating, you'll be supporting our mission to make cycling accessible to everyone, regardless of age, ability, or background. ๐Ÿ™

Pass the PEDALL 2026 is fast-approaching, and weโ€™re kicking off the campaign with a 100-mile (160km) loop around the New Forest! ๐Ÿšฒ๐ŸŒณ

On Wednesday 17th June, from 08:00 - 20:00, PEDALL volunteers Christine, Caroline and Claire will be taking on this inspiring challenge as part of our Pass the PEDALL campaign, raising vital funds and awareness for inclusive cycling.

Starting from PEDALL Burley Yard, theyโ€™ll cycle a full circuit of the New Forest, passing through places including Minstead Trust, Sway Cycles and Cedars Care Home, and connecting with the communities they support along the way. Theyโ€™ll be joined by fellow PEDALL volunteers and supporters from the New Forest National Park.

This is the first in a series of Pass the PEDALL events as we work towards our 10,000km community goal, culminating in a relay event in September.

Meet our new Ride Leader: Tom Russell ๐ŸŒŸ

โ€œIโ€™ve spent many years exploring the New Forest and all it has to offer, to share this with people is a great privilege!""

Tom Russell joins our PEDALL team with a simple but powerful motivation: to help more people experience the beauty of the New Forest, regardless of their ability. For Tom, the real reward comes in those small but unforgettable moments. A rider who arrives feeling unsure finds their rhythm and leaves with a spark of confidence they didnโ€™t expect.

Whether itโ€™s someone trying a specialist cycle for the first time or rediscovering a sense of independence, heโ€™s there to guide, encourage, and celebrate every win along the way.

Outside of PEDALL, Tomโ€™s love for cycling runs deep (and far). Fun fact, he clocks up more miles on two wheels each year than behind the wheel of a car!

Thinking about giving PEDALL a try? Tomโ€™s advice is simple: give it a go! Youโ€™ll be supported, at your own pace, with no pressure, so you can enjoy being outdoors and discovering whatโ€™s possible.
