Cornwall Heritage Trust The independent charity protecting Cornwall's heritage for everyone. That’s where Cornwall Heritage Trust comes in.
(3)

All over Cornwall, there are heritage sites that are uncared for and at risk – some that are even lost forever. There are Cornish traditions, ranging from gig building and wrestling to shanty singing and dancing, which need our support to flourish. Cornwall is incredibly special and we need to connect people with its landscape, traditions and communities to keep its story alive. We protect 13 of C

ornwall’s most iconic and important historic sites such as Treffry Viaduct, Castle an Dinas, the Hurler Stone Circles, and Sancreed Beacon, which are all open to the general public and free to enter. We run a highly successful education programme, offer support to other heritage organisations and provide school transport grants, which enable children to visit ancient sites, museums and historic properties across Cornwall. Cornwall Heritage Trust is a small independent charity and it’s because of our members and generous donations that we can continue this vital work. There are individual, joint, family and concession memberships available starting from just £15 a year, and your support means we can help Cornwall’s heritage flourish and offer universal access to some of its most special places.

The good news is that everything else remains firmly on track. We'll have pasties and refreshments available, and we're looking forward to gathering for a safe and memorable midsummer celebration.

More news from us!

We’re delighted to announce that we’ve secured the Prince of Wales Engine House, expanding on our existing sites of Houseman’s Engine House, the Hurler Stone Circles, King Doniert’s Stone, Trethevy Quoit and St Cleer Holy Well and Cross near Bodmin Moor.

This is an exciting milestone, and we can’t wait to share more about our vision for this in the coming weeks. You can read more about this via the news section on our website or by signing up for our newsletter.

"It felt like an adventure." 🏰 🌊

Pupils from Bodriggy Academy were recently able to visit St. Michael's Mount and experience one of Cornwall’s most iconic heritage sites first-hand.

One pupil told us:

"I really loved our trip to St Michael’s Mount and it was one of my favourite days ever. We started by walking across the causeway when the sea was very far away. I liked looking down at the rocks and the water and it felt like an adventure.

We climbed all the way up to the castle. It was a long walk but I felt proud when I got to the top. While we were walking, we heard stories about Cormoran the giant. I liked imagining him being really big and strong and living on the mount. When we went inside the castle, I thought the rooms were amazing. They were very big and I liked looking at the pictures, furniture and windows. It felt like being in a storybook.

At the end of the day, we had an ice cream. It tasted really yummy and made me smile. I was tired but very happy. I loved the trip to St Michael’s Mount and I want to go again."

Stories like this remind us why our School Transport Grant is so important: helping young people connect with Cornwall’s extraordinary heritage and create memories that last a lifetime.

Your membership and support makes inspirational trips like this possible.
Thank you 💙

We were all incredibly sad to hear of the death of our former trustee, Liz Carne.

Liz was an enthusiastic trustee of Cornwall Heritage Trust who provided a wealth of knowledge and expertise for the Cornish language, but also education and Cornish culture too. She was always willing to try new things but not afraid to ask questions and provide gentle challenge to ensure that we were making the right decisions for the charity.

Following her health diagnosis, Liz resigned as a trustee last year, but remained in touch with us and very interested in the Trust’s news and activities.

We will miss her very much and send our thoughts and sincere condolences to Ian, Richard and Agnes.

There's still time to have your say on Cornwall Council's Cornish Language Strategy 2026-2036!

This is a 10-year strategy to continue the revitalisation of Kernewek, the Cornish language. Its vision is for Cornish to be a thriving, forever language – widely spoken, seen and heard in everyday life in Cornwall.

Your responses will inform a final version of the strategy that Cornwall Council will consider and publish in July 2026. The closing date for the survey is Friday 19th June.

We’ve launched a consultation on our new Cornish Language Strategy and would like your views.

The draft strategy focuses on four key areas - learning, resources, community and civic use - and aims to strengthen and celebrate the Cornish language for future generations.

We're hiring!

We are looking for an ambitious and proactive Fundraising & Engagement Officer to join our team on a 12-month fixed-term contract, with the potential opportunity to extend.

Reporting to the Income Generation Manager, this role will play an important part in supporting and developing fundraising activity across multiple income streams, while helping strengthen supporter engagement and communication.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, is motivated by growth and impact, and has experience developing income streams and building strong supporter relationships.

A passion for Cornwall and its heritage, as well as a willingness to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in, is also obviously an advantage!

The role is primarily office-based, with email and telephone communication forming the main day-to-day points of contact.

The closing date for applications is midday on Monday 29th June, however, the vacancy may be closed early if there is significant interest.
