Good morning and happy Friday to all our wonderful Day Centre customers and our amazing Volunteers, what a wonderful and very busy week we have had here at Miners Court.

🪼Marvelous Monday 🪼
We kicked off the week by catching up on everyone's weekend news over a warm cuppa. Next, we got creative and crafted bright, beautiful jellyfish decorations to fill our day centre with colour! Before lunch, we squeezed in a lively game of 'OI' cards and a quick-fire trivia quiz. The afternoon brought plenty of excitement with a busy bingo session, while our card sharks enjoyed a few competitive hands at the games tables.

🐢 Terrific Tuesday🐢
Tuesday morning started with relaxation and wellness during our chair yoga session. Once we were completely stretched and refreshed, the kitchen team got to work crimping delicious homemade pasties ahead of Thursday's celebrations.
Nearby, the competitive spirit was alive with darts and a fast-paced game of Higher or Lower.
After lunch, the bingo cards were back out by popular demand! We also welcomed a very special, slow-moving guest 🐢 One of our customer's brought in his pet tortoise 🐢 Everyone loved holding him, and we topped off a perfect afternoon with refreshing ice cream cones.

🍻 Festive Thursday🍻

We began our Thursday with gentle chair yoga to wake up our muscles, followed by friendly, tactical matches of Dominoes and Connect 4.
The main event took place in the afternoon as we hosted our Father’s Day Party! We raised a glass with crisp, non-alcoholic beers and tucked into our freshly baked pasties. The room was absolutely buzzing with games of KerPlunk and Jenga, great music, and plenty of shared laughter.

History of World Tapas Day
World Tapas Day was started in Spain, in 2016. Being such a popular and famous method of serving up delicious goodies, it’s no wonder that it got its own day.

The word ‘tapas’ comes from the Spanish word ‘tapar’, which is a verb meaning ‘to cover’. The actual action of serving up small dishes was popularized before the 19th century when travelers visiting inns would often be served up small samples of food available.

There’s also a story that says that tapas was originally bread or meat which was draped over the mouths of sherry glasses in-between sips, to prevent flies from getting into the sweet beverage.

Especially salty meats such as chorizo would be used to encourage the punters to keep drinking. It’s crazy to think what this has evolved to, and how prevalent tapas is now as a Spanish delicacy.

From humble beginnings, it has grown to become one of the most important choices in all of Spanish cuisine, and this is something you need to consider right now if you want to make the most of this day.

This is an annual event uniting tapas lovers from all over the world, who come together to make the most of these delightful Spanish dishes. There are a lot of elements that you should consider here, and you are going to have plenty of time to make the most of this right now.

🏳️‍🌈Murdoch Day🏳️‍🌈

Murdoch day in Redruth is an annual community festival celebrating the town’s rich industrial heritage, particularly the work and influence of inventor William Murdoch. Pride Party 🏳️‍🌈
We're sure you already know how much we love to put on events for our residents/families and staff to come together and yesterday was a chance to do just that and celebrate the diversity and of course the love shared at Miners Court and Coastline Housing. We came together for an exciting afternoon of food, music and celebration. Music was provided by one of Coastlines amazing volunteers Justin and a fun time was had by all. It also gave us the chance to come together to wish Jenny well on her last day with us at Miners Court. Jenny is moving on to new exciting things and we want to thank her for all of the hard work and commitment she has given to us during her time here. Good luck for the future Jenny, you will be missed.

It's Update Time!

How much fun can we pack into one week? This week after a quick cuppa 🫖☕and a chat 🗨️🗣️to catch up about our weekend, we started with some of our customers making some beautiful flower arrangements💐. We also played some oi card bingo❤️♣️🔶 and guess who ❓in the morning. After a quick break for lunch we settled in for some classic bingo and a quiz❓✔️❌ while some chose quiet time for a little colouring🖼️🎨.
On Tuesday some of our customers used the cooking session to bake some delicious cupcakes 🧁ready for our party, we gently stretched in our chair yoga🧘🧘‍♂️ session and customers requested some more oi card bingo. In the afternoon we enjoyed more classic bingo.
With our week now in full swing we limbered up with another chair yoga 🧘‍♂️🧘session, we then tested our prediction skills with a few rounds of higher or lower⬆️⬇️ and tested ourselves with a quick quiz❓✔️❌, while some preferred a competitive game of dominoes. After lunch it was time for us to raise the roof with our Pride Party (post to follow shortly). After such a jam-packed week we hope you all have a little time to relax this weekend and look forward to some more fun and games with you all next week. 😀
