The Portland Trust was founded by a small group of Portland residents. Initially the group came together to campaign against the threat of quarrying along Portland's Coastal Strip. Due to the staggering response from locals and visitors to the area it was decided the best way forward would be to operate as a charity. This way all of the contacts, knowledge and supporters gained through the " Save
Our Coastal Strip" Campaign could be utilised in the future for the protection and preservation of this beautiful Isle and all it has to offer. We envisage an unspoilt and accessible Portland for all to enjoy. Our Purpose is to protect and preserve Portland’s rare and beautiful natural environment, its heritage and its history from the risk of development or closure. Our Values
• We are committed to spreading an empowering message that with community support, a positive environment filled with passion and belief, obstacles can be overcome. Our eyes can not only be opened to our surroundings but our own strength.
• We strive to be informative and approachable. We speak and act with honesty and integrity in all aspects of our work.
• We will act respectfully to other organisations, businesses and individuals. We note that there may be historical issues, conflicts or a complex history to certain issues. These should be put aside out of a need to share cooperative action to protect our island and its natural environment.
• We are campaigning to conserve the natural environment and hold the environment and our natural surroundings in high regard. We aim to inspire all we work with to feel the same and adopt a “leave no trace” approach in everything that we do.
• We aim to make all aspects of our campaigns open and available to all. Throughout all of our campaigning the safety and wellbeing of all involved will always remain our highest priority
