Rest Bay Lifeguard Club

Rest Bay Lifeguard Club Surf Lifesaving Club at Rest Bay, Porthcawl. https://www.paypal.com/gb/fundraiser/charity/3271811 Rest Bay Lifeguard Club patrols Rest Bay beach, Porthcawl.

We train members in lifesaving techniques and provide opportunities to compete in Surf Life Saving Sport. Our members range in age from 7 upwards. The club works hard to provide the best possible lifesaving equipment at Rest Bay for use by our members whilst patrolling the beach or taking part in surf lifesaving sport. We have an excellent relationship with the RNLI lifeguard service that patrols

the beach during the summer months and many of the lifeguards who work at Rest Bay are members of and have been trained by the club. Club volunteers support the RNLI lifeguard service during the summer months with patrols using club powercraft during key times and when conditions dictate.

Surfer rescued off Hutchwns Point by Porthcawl RNLI Lifeboat after being swept out from Rest Bay by the rip and lateral current.

If you’re surfing at Rest Bay this autumn and through the winter always stay on the golf club side of the lifeguard station.

It was an incredibly busy bank holiday on Monday with a large spring tide, surf and strong current in the direction of town on the incoming tide.

Volunteer members of Rest Bay Lifeguard Club supported RNLI Lifeguards South East Wales with a patrol of the point on rescue boards helping to keep water users safe when the tide hit the point.

One of the club's volunteers spotted a girl who was swimming being dragged out by the current in the direction of the point. When she realised she couldn't make it back to shore unaided she was assisted to safety and back to the beach on the rescue board.

We were pleased to be able to support the RNLI lifeguards on an incredibly busy day at the beach.

Our club and all of our club's equipment is funded through voluntary donations and grant funding so we appreciate your support.

⚠️ REST BAY SAFETY WARNING ⚠️

There have been numerous incidents in the past 24 hours around high tide where large dumping waves on the slipway have knocked people over and swept them into the boulders at the sides of the slipway, sustaining injuries.

Please take extreme caution outside of RNLI Lifeguards South East Wales patrol hours. It is often not safe to enter the sea either side of high water when there is large swell and dumping waves onto the slipway.

Our advice is to visit during RNLI lifeguard patrol hours (10am-6pm) and swim between the red and yellow flags.

Over the coming days there will be very strong currents in the direction of town, particularly on incoming tides. If surfing always stay to the golf club side of the lifeguard station and between the black and white flags when RNLI lifeguards are on patrol.

Rest Bay lifeguard club volunteers carried out 7 hours of patrols over the weekend to help keep water users at Rest Bay safe.

With very strong offshore winds during the weekend club volunteers supported the RNLI Lifeguards South East Wales service by patrolling in the afternoons on the club’s Rescue Watercraft (RWC) as well a patrol on Sunday evening after RNLI lifeguard patrol hours.

In total RWC operators carried out 20 preventative actions, stopping people on paddleboards and other craft getting blown too far out to sea and provided safety advice and encouragement to return closer to shore.

On Sunday evening 2 paddleboarders were rescued by volunteers patrolling on the RWC as they were struggling in the offshore winds.

If you’re heading to the beach this summer always visit a lifeguarded beach during patrol hours and swim between the red and yellow flags.

A big congratulations to Rest Bay’s Dr. Ellie McCloy who last week graduated following five years of intense study at Cardiff University’s school of medicine.

Ellie is a huge inspiration to our nipper, youth and other club members. A dedicated and hard working elite athlete who proves that with enough drive and passion, you really can achieve anything!

Da iawn Dr. McCloy 💚 💛
